    Close a credit card account

I'm going to try and close my CapitalOne credit card account as I have got accepted for Tesco one.
I'm just wondering is it a case of just phoning up and they will cancel it or do they try and get you to stay, I basically only took it to build up my credit history.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

just ring them and cancel job done

Just call them and say "Bye".

They may offer you to stay, but you're not obliged to take any offer. You could of course keep it open and not use it to build your score up more, should you trust yourself not to spend what you can't afford. Especially if you put a tank of petrol a month on and pay in full.

Be aware of residual interest as well if you've used it in this billing period. Shouldn't be a problem but can catch some people out

Call them and cancel. Can be done immediately if balance is 0.

Call them, if there is any outstanding balance, they will tell you; and you can usually pay it off over the phone there and then.

I thought you had to write to confirm you wanted to close account. That's how I closed my accounts. Maybe things have changed as was 4 years ago.

The account is now closed, was as easy as everyone on here said.
    Thanks again

Is it or isn't it? You can't use it..but it isn't really closed until CC company is sure there are no more purchases that require payment - even if you have a zero balance. I thought I had closed an MBNA cc, until I received a new card 2 years later! oO

When I try and login it doesn't work, also was told that I will get written confirmation to confirm that account is closed within the next few days.
Not sure what else I can do to check it's closed?
