Coalition abandons plans for weekly bin rounds

The Coalition has performed a major policy U-turn by abandoning the fight to reintroduce weekly rubbish collections.

Councils will no longer be able to fine people for failing to close a bin lid; leaving bin bags next to a bin; putting a bin out on the wrong day; failing to move it back inside the boundary of a property; or making minor mistakes with recycling.

I live accross the road from my local town hall, may just start burning my rubbish when the wind blows their way.

Bins are emptied every day, including Sundays in Spain, and their taxes are far less than ours.

Last time I checked they don't have to grit their roads or deal with floods

and I'm sure the heat turns the food into fly magnets within hours.

I have weekly bin colelctions and I have 2 bins!

We also have weekly bin collections

We get our bins collected every week but it's a lottery what bins get emptied. We have a brown one, a grey one, a blue one and a green one and they go out on different weeks...

lol our actual 'rubbish' wheely bin gets emptied every week but our recycling wheely bin gets emptied fortnightly.

Before we move it was all fortnightly, it was bit of a pain then

black bins are taken every week..... garden/food and recycling is alternative....

we put about 3-4 bags out a week...so couldnt imagine having to wait 2 weeks

Fortnightly bin collections? How middle ages.

Then you'll get fined, which will be funny.

Our council just threatened everyone in our area with a £1000 fine if they did not put the bins out on the correct day and bring them back in within a few hours. I'd like to see them try that one

We have 2 adults and a teenager living in our house and we put out one black bin bag per week. Any paper and cardboard (folded flat) along with glass, recyclable plastic and metal go for recycling. We are not tree huggers, but it amazes me how other neighbours with similar occupancy to ours can put out 4-5 bags a week

    source?

local tax rate is 12% on ANY income up to €17707 (no tax free allowance from what I can see). Seems higher than most people's council tax

Also, they dont have a benefits system that costs more than all the income tax collected unlike the UK! oO

That is the frequency our bins were emptied when we lived in The Netherlands - and it worked fine. That said though - it is far easier to recycle there.

Green bin (normal waste every 2 weeks brown bin garden waste alt week (cost went up silly) recycling including food and cardboard every week.
