Just come back from Glasto with quite frankly the worst cold sore I have ever seen- anyone know any successful, quick, post-eruption treatments?

Thanks (as you can tell I turn to HUKD at all times)

Apart from something from the chemist anything alchohol based to dry it out , ie perfume, aftershave etc.

Good old aciclovir (zovirax)

I get cold sore a lot and I find nothing beats Zorviax, a bit expensive but a brilliant product. (even stops them apearing sometimes especially if caught at the tingling stage).

Nail varnish remover.

I get them about once per year & of course the best thing to do is treat it with something like zovirax when the tingling first starts. My last one came on whilst i was abroad & of course no zovirax with me. I had heard that bleach was a good way of getting it down but could sting for a while. I decided to give it a go & yes it did sting for a while but the cold sore had gone within a day. If you can stand a little pain try it with cotton bud or something similar

you can now buy little patches not sure what they are called but boots sells them. I have used them a couple of times and think they are quite good. It definitely went quicker as you dont get the constant cracking and bleeding in the morning when you wake up.
Cold sores are horrible so hope you get rid soon. I find temperature changes can cause them...particularly heat and you will have been exposed to hot sun all day long.
Good luck

I'm quite scared of this post, bleach arghhh

I've used the patches - compeed I think - and they were okay once I'd got used to them.
They take the pain away quite well as they protect the lip when you're eating and drinking.

It worked though Deb & i was cold sore free :-D

Usually get them on holiday in the sun, its the UV light that triggers them. Zovirax is the best treatmnt at the moment. I wouldn't put bleech on my face!

I've found that Zovirax is the only thing that's helped me over the years. I used to get them in the corners of my mouth all the time which were agony but this cleared them up really quickly. Haven't had any for a year or two - touch wood

Get the plasters. They hide the hideosness of the sores and the wound heals quicker

Thanks for all the help. Tried Compeed before, and thought it aggravated it. The blisters were already a state, so went for a bleach / zovirax combo. Seems to be working OK. The bleach was almost instantenous in calming the swelling. Ideally zovirax would be used at first tingle, but obviously I am way past that stage.

Thanks again.

Try this, should hide it very well.
