If you are in receipt of the qualifying benefits direct.gov.uk/en/…668
you are intitled to £25 towards your heating bills. you can check how many payments you are due by going to pensions.direct.gov.uk/en/…asp.
sorry if i am just repeating what ppl already know, but thought it was worth a reminder with the weather how it is atm.

Not eligible myself, but from what I gather the payments are made automatically?

or do people need to claim it?

Original Poster

i dont think they need to claim, but you know what these places are like, they can miss payments.

i think everyone should be able to get this, why do people on benifits get everything, im not having a pop at them but it just seems unfair. theres people who work who struggle for money but get sod all, im on maternity leave and my partner works and we struggle at times so a help towards the gas bill would come in handy.

they used to be automatic - not sure now - but they only pay out if the temp hits below 0 over so many days and its has to remain constantly below - so I gather but could be wrong.

im not going to get one as we dont get benefits-and i looked and my postcode doesnt qualify anyway which i find bizarre...its been below 0 for weeks!!!!!!!!

I think they still are. I collected my neighbours pension today, as I do every week, and she had an extra £50 and we didnt know what it was for as she hasnt had any letters - so I reckon its this. I put her postcode into that link and seems she has had 2 cold weather snaps.

Thanks OP as you have solved the mystery. You know what old folk are like! She kept going on and on AND ON AND ON about where this extra money came from and would they whip it back off her next week lol.

haha! yes am now a Mrs lol. sorry I kept it quiet, but due to my dad's health I was ready to cancel right up to the last minute - and that would have been awful if we had a church full of guests - so we kept it very simple - but it was all very romantic too!! Down on Loch Lomond and it was snowing!!

thank you!

Last year it was paid automatically, DD has now turned 5 so we dont qualify anymore, Whats the difference between a 4 and a 5 year old ??? Thats what i find is crazy

ah right. I have been fortunate enough never to have been unemployed since I left school so never even been in the dole office. But I know circumstances can changed and nobody knows what is ahead of them

You may also be eligible for a Cold Weather Payment for each qualifying week if you are getting Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance in the assessment phase and have one of the following:

a pensioner premium, higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium
a disability premium, enhanced disability premium or severe disability premium
a disabled child premium
Child Tax Credit that includes a disability or severe disability element
a child who is under five in the family

This year you will get £25 when the average temperature where you live is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days during the period from 1 November to 31 March. Specified Meteorological Office weather stations are used to obtain this information.

this is for england

i used the postcode checker and got this

The Met Office have notified the Department for Work and Pensions that no periods of very cold weather have occurred in the DA1 postcode area between 1 November 2009 and 6 January 2010 that would trigger a Cold Weather Payment. No Cold Weather Payments have been made.

lol, are they kidding me
