Come dine with me

Why don't the people on 'come dine with me' wear seat belts in the back of the taxi when they are giving their marks for the evening? (The taxi isn't stationary by the way!)

    Because it's the law?

Because they live on the wild side of life?

It's not the law, not in a taxi...

    Lol, we say that!

Funnily enough, seem to have episodes where they all have it on, then episodes where nobody does, so maybe the taxi driver sometimes insists on it???

Was in daily mail last weekend (I think) someone from the political special from thursday was talking all about it, and they said you only stay in taxi until you get around the corner then you get out into a mini bus and the taxi goes back for next person to give results! Is to save money, they drop everyone off at houses in mini bus instead

I didn't know that! What possible reason is there for taxis being exempt?

i never wear a seatbelt in a taxi..or when i'm sitting as a passenger in the back..

    despite that..

love the commentary on come dine with me... the guy is genius!

the driver is responsible for seatbelts being worn. Imagine the hassle for a taxi driver to ensure ALL passengers wore their satbelts. Same rule for coaches I believe.

personally, utter madness to not wear a seatbelt. I even wear mine on a plane all the time lol

Oh, I see. I'm with you on seatbelts. Always wear one.

The full legislation regarding car seatbelts states:

Adults and children over 12, or over 1.5 metres tall, must wear seatbelts in the front of a car, and in the back if available.

Children aged 3-11 and under 1.5 metres must wear a child restraint if available, and if not, they must wear a seatbelt in the front of the car, or in the back if available. It is always safer for children to travel in the back of the car, unless there is a better form of restraint in the front.

Children under the age of 3 must wear a child restraint if it is available. However, if it is not, they must be sat and secured in the back.

Passengers travelling in taxis and small minibuses must wear seatbelts at all times.

To clarify I did some taxi firm work when I was in uni, taxi drivers do NOT have to wear seatbelts incase there is a need for them to escape in a hurry.

Under the law if you don't wear a seatbelt in a taxi and you are an adult, it's you who who has commited the offence and you who will get done. For a minor (14 under) it's the taxi drivers responsibility, it's always been the case.

Since the new law about child restraints came in, just a seatbelt is no longer acceptable, all children must be in a car seat, the only exception is the back of a taxi. Or if over 3 years old, no more room for car seats in the car, or travelling a short distance in an unexpected emergency.

possibly cos the law states only if they are 'FITTED'. Cant say I have been in a 5 man cab that has had seat belts obviously on view. Mind you, I have normally been plastered when splashing out on one of these :-D
