Complaint against A&L.

Made a complaint to A&L 9 weeks ago about a simple direct debit they weren't allowing to go through. Spent about 6 hours on the phone trying to get them to sort it out but ended up being told to make a complaint as they couldn't fix it. Got £25 for my troubles and a letter saying they've now fixed it.

Question is, should I tell them I want more? £25 for the 6 hours on the phone doesn't even make minimum wage. They spent about 2 hours telling me that the number on the direct debit was wrong, I told them it wasn't. I phoned again the next day and spoke to several people who told me the number was right!

Also seeing as they took more than 8 weeks I can get the osbudman service to look at it. Anyone have any experience of this? Bank told me that they take up to 6 months to deal with the complaint and I lose the right to chase it up myself! Would I have to give the £25 back if I went that route?

I'm guessing they don't want the ombudsman to get involved so I might just do it to wind them up, would it cause me problems like them closing the account or something?

Cheers!

£25 is a bit carp for the amount of time/stress involved. They need to be taught not to muck people around like this.

Also want a bit of revenge for really winding me up.

I agree in one way, but on the other hand, its better than a kick in the nads?

Forget it, get on with your life, have a little skip through a field of wheat or something! ;-)

Over 8 thousand posts and no avi, that's weird!

Yeah, I'd be seriously gutted if they'd sent me a letter and a kick in the nads!

£25 is a joke though, if I'd been working instead of trying to fix their mistakes I would have got at least £60 + not had to pay for all the calls and not had all the stress.

Should have added that the two main parts of my complaint weren't even addressed, why they continually argued about this number being wrong when they finally had to admit they were wrong about that, and why they hung up on me at least 3 times.

So, anyone know about the ombudsman service? Are they really gonna be interested? It's not like they've done anything illegal, just wound a customer up and been of very little help.

Might try to get hold of the recorded calls as I doubt very much that they've listened to the calls. They tried to say that the hanging up happened when in the queue and that's their automated system that does it. If they'd listened to the calls they'd see that people hung up on me.

Well I went ahead and told them I wasn't happy that they missed most of my complaint and the amount they offered was pathetic. Got the reply saying have an extra £50 and answered most of my complaint (still missed about 20-30% of it tho). Feel like phoning them up and pointing out that they still haven't answered a fair amount of what I complained about but I think I'd just be wasting my time now. They've admitted that they were wrong about most of the stuff and have given a total of £100 for wasting my time. It pays to complain!!
