    Component to DVI cable

Does such a cable exist because i have recently purchased a DVD recorder with composite out, but my plasma is already using the composite for xbox 360. My old plasma has a dvi and not hdmi but i can send the audio to another jack for the tv to play.

    Rep for good answers, cheers

Are you sure you don't mean Component?

If so, there are devices which will allow component (analog) to DVI (digital), but they're not cheap.

To be fair, DVD playback on the 360 via component will be no worse than playing back on the DVD Recorder. However if you really want to do it, either get a component switch box or get a VGA cable for the 360 to free up the component input.

The discussions say it doesn't work the way i want it to, i.e. send picture through component of the dvd player to the plasma screens dvi connection. I'll have it for £5 delivered if it work that way?

What you need to check is if the DVI port on your Plasma is DVI-D, DVI-I or both.

DVI-D is purely digital and unless you have a device which does Analog to Digital conversion it won't work.

If it supports DVI-I there's a chance it MAY work, but don't quote me on it.

I'm assuming your 360 doesn't have HDMI output ? (lord I wish they would have made it standard from launch!!!! )

Cheers for the techical information and rep added, you've just sumed up that i've been reading on the internet!

My Xbox does have HDMI but my Plasma doesn't, hence why i'm using component for that. Would it be possible to use HDMI to DVI and send the audio seperate? :?

You can definitely use it for video no problems - the issue comes with audio.

Unless you modify an existing component cable (removing the outer shell) to then use the audio outputs from it, you've got to purchase the official HDMI AV kit by MS which includes a 'dongle' with optical and analog audio outputs. you can then run the optical directly into your TV's optical input port (if it has one) or the L/R phono to audio input ports - more than likely marked on the TV as PC input (situated near the DVI and VGA ports and very likely to be a 3.5mm audio jack).

I'd probably recommend getting a component switch box instead - it's going to be a lot less hassle, will cost you between £10-15 and allow at least 3 component inputs at the same time. Either ]this or ]this will do the job - I have the latter of the two.
