You mean the sound card. If it is a PC, it is highly likely, but you'll need the drivers. I'd buy new if I were you.

If you have onboard sound then you not gonna be able to do it

unless she wants to swap the systemboard if compatable. But your best bet would be to by a new pci card as suggested above

basically what you need to do is to look at the donor PC. see if the speaker socket is in the same area as the keyboard, mouse, usb ports etc or if it is in one of the slots. if its in the slots then you're ok . but not if its by the keyboard/mouse ports etc

This is true if it is a laptop, but if it is a desktop you can add an extra sound card, as long as it is not an ancient motherboard.

or PCMCIA if it's a laptop

a basic sound card looks like ]this
you should be able to move it from one machine to another and install the drivers that came with it or download them from the manufacturer's website. But sound cards are so cheap (pretty much free on Ebay, just pay for delivery), that you may want to buy a new one

speaking of sounds cards, I've just purchased ]this one? what you the techies think!? :whistling:

as long as you've got a PCI express port and it isn't blocked by a huge Pci express graphics card
