    Computer Help Please......Desktop PC Died!!

On computer last night and I pushed it back against the wall.
As I did it heard a clicking sound. Pulled it out and it stopped. Pushed it back in and it started again.
I then realised that a plastic tie wrap was going into the back and touching the fan (i think)
I moved a few bit about and then suddenly the screen all went blue. You could still see what was on the monitor but it all went a blue colour!!

Turned PC off......now nothing happens...all blank!!
PC fires up but nothing happens and monotor stay blank even though its switched on!

    Any advise/help appreciated

Yead did all of that but still nothing.
If thats all you think it might be I will strip it all out and re connect all cables again.

    Thanks for help:thumbsup:

Turn the PC on and see if you can still open the DVD drive by pressing the button.

If you heard a clicking sound, possibly from the power supply unit, its worth removing the kettle lead from the power supply input of the base unit, leave for a minute and then re-inserting, some residual electricity can be left in power supplies and their overload circuitry prevents them from operation until removed.

As for the monitor turning a blue colour, I would hazard a guess that was unrelated and more likely when you moved the unit you pulled the VGA lead loose so it was not making full connection, reseat your monitor cables.

It might have blown a capacitor on the motherboard or power supply. have alook inside and see if you can see any signs of blackness on any part of the motherboard. give it a sniff as well to see if you can smell burning

Sounds to me like when you pushed the PC back it crunched the VGA cable that connects to the monitor - hence the blue output. So you either smashed the VGA cable or the actual header on the PC. Something you should probably look into.

The clicking might have been because the cable tie was in the fan.

First up, hit the auto or sync button on the monitor (if it has it) when the blue screen is showing.

As rediron says, try this. It will show whether the pc boots up at least.

If you can open the dvd drive, wait a good few minutes for the computer to boot up in to windows. at this point you'll be certain that the boot sequence is complete which can cause your monitor to change resolutions a couple times. Make sure the monitor is on. Now unplug the monitor cable from the pc and check that the pins in the plug arent bent. If that is fine, plug the cable back in securely and watch the monitor for 30 seconds to see if things change. By reconnecting it the monitor detects this and will try to set its resolution to what the pc is telling it to be. If that fails, unplug the monitor cable from the monitor at the monitor end, check the pins and socket and reconnect. If that fails, try the monitor on another pc or laptop.

I don't know about windows, but, does it make a sound when it loads up? If so, you could always connect speakers to your pc, turn on the pc, and listen for the sound. If it makes windows sound, then well, windows is working at least and the problem is most likely somewhere else. A blown capacitor, a dead power supply, a corrupt windows install, or a corrupt hd won't let windows start and do that sound.

The problem could be the video card, i've had a hard bump to the computer cause the vga port to become unsoldered from the motherboard.. If you have another monitor, or even an lcd or plasma tv, try connecting your pc to that and seeing if they work.

No DVD player will not open !!!!!!

Was the fan on the power supply (very top of the computer next to where the power lead plugs in) or attached to the PC case?

Also, I'd concur with the others that the blue screen sounds like a broken VGA connection, can you confirm whether you're using VGA to connect the monitor (it's a trapezoidal port, often coloured blue, with three rows of 5 pins/holes for 15 in total, the connector may be missing a few but that's normal)?
