    Computer speaker query....?

hi my 7 year old pakard bell finally packed in so got a cracking refurbished base unit from Comet today. Rigged it up as normal but noticed the speakers from my old comp have 2 jacks (one green and the other pink) but looks like there's only room for the green jack. I plug it in but get no power from the speakers (usually a blue light goes on) despite having installed the drivers.
Thinking back the pink jack which us now spare seemed to be the power one when I used them on my pakard bell.

So, am I doing anything wrong or do I simply need new speakers with different jacks on them? What jacks are on more modern speakers, and can anyone reccomend a cheap set?

I tried earphones in the pc and it works fine so there's no problem there

Sounds like the speakers get their power from the Microphone plug (the pink one) Do you not have a microphone connection on your new base unit?

no, I can't see one. The speakers have the green jack which is a male connector and a pink one which powers them which is a female connector if you get me?

There doesn't seem there's any where in the back of the comp to put the female connector

I got a set of these from Tesco, and they are spot on. I mean for the price dont expect surround sound or 5000 watts of power. But they do a good job, and have a great sound

As Robotochan said, pink is usually the microphone connection but that's usually a male jack. Maybe they're using some sort of proprietry packard bell connector?

Did you old base unit have the pink connector in the power supply like the one in the image?

If that's the case you'll need some shiny new speakers (or a shiny new power supply but speakers are cheaper and easier to replace)
