CONFIRMED: Scalebound (Xbox One) had been cancelled

Scalebound (Xbox One exclusive) is rumoured to be cancelled after Microsoft and Platinum Games part ways.

After more than 4 years in development, Microsoft and Platinum Games have parted ways resulting in the upcoming Xbox One Exclusive Scalebound being cancelled.

First shown at E3 2014, Scalebound was in the public eye at Gamescom in 2016, however production ceased before the end of 2016.

It is unclear whether it could be revived in the future.

Microsoft has delisted Scalebound from the Xbox Store to prevent any future pre-orders. They have also removed the Scalebound webpage from the main Xbox website.

    More to follow...

    Microsoft (Studios) was the publisher.

That's no excuse. Don't forget your coat on your way out.

A shame as MS desperately need exclusive titles not called Halo, Gears of War and Forza.

I enjoyed "Titanfall". Didn't like the follow-up though.

"Ryse: Son of Rome" was fun for a while too.

I haven't opened (&, hence, played) "Quantum Break" yet.

    I want a dragon

This would suck big time! Xbox have a great line-up this year with the likes of Ashen, Below, Conan Exiles, Crackdown 3, Cuphead, Enki, Halo Wars 2, Phantom Dust, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Tacoma, Voodoo Vince Remastered and We Happy Few but a lot of people were really excited especially for Scalebound.

Now you've made me feel sorry for you

    Ok, you can stay

This sucks but I reckon that Platinum are making Devil May Cry 5 and Hideki Kamiya is gonna have a part in it.

    That sucks.
Quite weird as it must have been fairly near completion. Perhaps Platinum have spread themselves too thin between all their projects...who knows.

Not a surprise. The "vertical slice" they showed at e3 looked like it was struggling to run on the hardware. They'll no doubt re-purpose some of the assets and ideas, games never completely die.

I don't know why you continue watching "Sherlock" or "Doctor Who". You rarely have a good word to say about either of them.

Does the One even have any exclusives left this year now?

So Scalebound is coming to PS4 instead?

Exclusive contract for Switch development perhaps

this was the main reason to buy the machine along with other games, I wonder if they turn it into something better as i would have thought the game was near completion. so whats next...

Apparently Scalebound started as a Wii game so who knows who owns the IP.

I can't see it coming to PS4 but who knows, it certainly would be rubbing salt in the wound.

    Not exclusive.

They are console exclusives. Microsoft is Windows and Windows is PC so of course you are always going to be able to play a lot of Xbox games on PC. Xbox benefits from this as it gets a lot of PC games that don't come to PlayStation or Nintendo.

I understand that, but 'Below', 'Conan Exiles', 'Tacoma' and 'We Happy Few' are all timed and coming to Playstation (although, personally I'll play them on whatever gets them first) and 'Phantom Dust' was cancelled like two years ago... Unless they're taking yet another crack at it???

You are correct that a couple of years ago there was a cancellation on Phantom Dust but since that time...

Microsoft announced its plans to re-release Phantom Dust in emulation for the Xbox One during its press conference at Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016. The re-release, to be developed by Code Mystics will use the original graphics and other assets updated for better resolution, and improve support for Xbox Live. The game will also run on Windows 10 as part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program. This version is expected to be released in 2017. In an interview with Polygon following the announcement, Spencer said he had only learned of this remake three weeks prior, as the effort to craft it was led by Shannon Loftis, the head of publishing for Microsoft Studios. According to Spencer, Loftis was able to use internal funds to support its development, keeping it a secret outside of Microsoft Studios, and then revealed the trailer to Spencer prior to the Expo, noting that the game was almost done at that point.

So this is essentially an oXBOX game emulated on X1? That hardly counts does it?? If we counted all the PS2 games coming to PS4 as exclusives we'd be here all day long...
