Confused about the champions league draw, can anybody figure it out?

Can anyone explain why Spurs weren't allowed to be in the Real Madrids champions league group?

There were no english teams and from what I know, the only rule is you're not allowed to face another team from the same country in the group phases, so what's the problem?

Any of the English teams could have been in Reals group, they wern't a top seed.

I know that but when Spurs were drawn out of pot 3, they said Spurs can only be in group A, even though there wasn't any english teams in Madrids group?

Wasn't it to do with TV rights, as they needed the same about of teams playing on Tuesday and Wednesday (Blue or Red)?

maybe the other teams in pot 3 would have been from the same country as group A, meaning they could not go into group A.

^^^ correct, Ajax, couldnt be drawn in the same group as FC Twente

But Ajax wasn't in Real Madrids group and Twente wasn't even drawn at this stage, so I don't think it was that.

It could of been that, as I think there was the possibility of being in 3-4 groups (not just the Madrid group) but I don't know about the tv pots, as that's the only thing I didn't consider.

Can someone confirm if this is the case?

Who cares? They are not going to win so it doesn't matter what group they are in.

    Obviousy

I just predicted that they would be in Madrids group and wasn't given the chance to be in there despite thinking there was a good chance of it happening when I saw Madrid wasn't in Arsenal, Utd or Chelseas group, it looked even more likely.
