Connecting an iPod to Ford Focus stereo

Sister has a 3 month old Focus Titanium and I am getting her an iPod nano 5th gen for her birthday. Only had a quick look inside and the aux connection to the car stereo looked like a USB port. Can anyone tell me what leads if any I need to connect it up and will she be able to control it from her stereo like I can in my Golf?

I think the USB is only for a memory stick (usb type obviously!)
There is an aux input in the glovebox for ipod/generic mp3 player; this would need the standard 3.5mm connector from here to headphone jack of ipod. Set radio to aux and listen to ipod.

My car has a usb and aux connector - and thats specifically for an iphone / iPod - though can be just just as a USB or Aux input individually.

The connecting cable is ipod on one end and block aux/usb on the other.

It seems the Focus one is connected to the headphone socket and aux on the car, meaning it cant be controlled (I assume)..... mine is controlled for the steering wheel stork.

Imo if you have a usb socket with full control it would be a waste of money buying an ipod for in car use only.

Much easier with a cheap memory stick.

Thanks for the info. She wants an iPod so thats what she is getting. Will throw in a headphone to headphone lead and leave it at that I think.

Thing is, if she has full functionality from a usb stick she can change tracks from the stereo/steering controls quite easily. With a headphone to headphone lead and an ipod it's much more difficult to mess with the ipod itself while concentrating on the road.

    +1 for USB stick

just stick your mp3s on there and you're away. And as mentioned above, you can skip through them using the stereos buttons. With an ipod, you'd have to fiddle around with it to change the track which is gonna get you in trouble with the police if they see you doing it on the motorway lol

Think what people seem to be missing here is its for her birthday! he cant very well just give her a usb stick! and whos to say she doesnt want to use the ipod for listening to music in other places!?

Could get a usb stick and fill it with music, like a modern age mix tape.

If its anything like my Fiesta which has the Ipod connectivity you should check out this page:

Ford Owners Club - Y Cable Thread

Has all the info on the cable you will need and the different set ups you can have. For mine I can control my Ipod through the car's stereo, basically using it as if it was my actual ipod.
