Have you checked that the BIOS is set to display the laptop screen and the video out simultaniously, and try pressing the fn button and the screen switch key.

Are you on the right channel on the TV?
Try flicking through the different AV channels.
What is the make and model of your DVD Player? I've yet to see a DVD player that has a firewire input but if yours has then I expect it will be able to transfer picture and sound to your TV.

oh - can't help with this one- im USELESS with technology

Just wanted to ask if someone could post a direct link to the item I need PLEASE

I bought a laptop for my daughter for xmas (it has a vga slot apparently) we want to attach it to the BEKO 32" TV that was advertised on here just before xmas (apparently that has a vga slot to) im lost and don't know where to look or what to look for (obviously as cheap as possible)

Most of these will work. They're really cheap now as everything is moving towards DVI or HDMI.

amazon.co.uk/s/r…=Go

Edit:
However, make sure to read the feedback of these cables. For example, I just clicked on the first belkin one and:
"I bought this item to hook up a laptop display output to an LCD TV and even on a static picture could immediately see bad "ghosting". So much for "pro series" meaning anything.
So instead I then bought a StarTech.com Coaxial VGA Video Cable that claimed to "eliminate picture ghosting and fuzzy images inherent to non-coaxial cables" and found that that worked a treat. So unless you're really looking for something cheap for a small monitor I'd find it hard to recommend this item."

So have a look at StarTech.com for a Coaxial VGA Video Cable i guess!

I think you need something like this: amazon.co.uk/Bel…D2/

Both ends should have the same male connector.

Thanks for that !!!, my daughter will be happy, just got to buy and set it up for her now

Thanks

ok im using the tv right now as my monitor but its connected to my desktop and teh tv out is going to my graphics card. it works fine with my main desktop but when i try it with my dell d500 it doesnt work.
my dvd recorder is a philips 3380. i think its a firewire it says dv in and it looks exacttly like the one on my laptop.
im gona try to access the bios and do what soupy said.
thanks for everyones help repped you all.

You might need to enable the TV out in the graphics card properties - depending on the brand there's usually a section to 'activate' the TV out and choose exactly what is shown there. Alternatively you may be able to enable it by right click your desktop, properties and then choosing the last tab (assuming it's 2k/XP) - you should see two monitor, labelled 1 and 2 with the second one being greyed out. Right click this one and choose 'attached'. You are better doing this through the graphics card driver if possible.

The firewire in on your laptop is for data transfer, I would assume the firewire port on the DVD players is for hooking up to a DV camera - the laptop cannot ouptut video through the port, or at least I've not seen it before.

You probably need to change the audio settings on the laptop, to output it to the tv.
Not 100% sure because my laptop does it automatically but Iwould suggest going to control panel>hardware and sound>sound and see if there is an option there.
