    consumer rights on sale goods

My mate purchased tv package last week .Cost £2000. Hes just been back into same shop (tastes spicy) and they have knocked £500 of price. He spoke to sales person and was told there was nothing they could do.Is this true.
Have you any advice on what he could do.(All packaging has been thrown out)
    Thanks:-(

If it was bought from the shop via telephone has has recourse through the Distance Selling Regulations through which he can cancel the contract with the seller by returning the goods within 7 working days starting the day after he recieved the item.
Then he could rebuy at lower price (though it sounds like he could have done well to come on here first at £2k!).

If it was a simple shop purchase unless they have a returns policy, or the item is faulty, then he is stuck with it - he chose to buy at that price, and was just unlucky with the timing. (Unless of course it was bought on a credit card with a price drop policy, though that is somewhat uncommon).

    Moved to correct forum...

    He's knackered I think.

I'm assuming he bought it from currys due to your 'tastes spicy' comment? If so they have a returns policy but it is quite strict with regards to the state of the unit and packaging.

    Quote from terms and conditions.

In all cases, your product must be complete and in 'as new' condition. If you have opened the box to examine the product you must have done so without damaging or marking the product or packaging. The product must not have been used or installed. It should be returned with the original box and packaging, along with any accessories you received with it. Pre-recorded videotapes, DVDs, CDs, minidiscs, memory cards and software must still be sealed. Any free gifts received with the product must also be returned.

to be honest it is unlucky but in my view he must have been satisifed with paying the original price otherwise he wouldnt have purchased it, i know it was a lot of money but do you go and get a refund when the price of petrol drops and you paid more for it last week?

There's a woman in America (natch) suing Apple for dropping the price on the iPhone after she'd bought one. I think she's aiming for something like two hundred billion dollars on the basis of the total difference in price ($200) plus $199,999,999,800.01 for "emotional damage", or something like that. Story's ]here, if anyone's interested. Admittedly, this isn't terribly useful to the OP or his friend, but a similar thing could make for an interesting change of tack if asking the sales staff for £500 doesn't work out.

He is trying to make a point about frivolous litigation.

    Good Evening all!

Yes the same happened to me when I brought some servers came to about 15k

They lowered the price on 1 of them. Phoned up Dell for to refund the difference.

They said its been processed (we refunded the difference automatically)

Well embarrassed! But thats what you call customer service!

BUT Most companies do refund the difference I know Apple do within 14 days!
