Consumption costs for renting a holiday home in Majorca

I am renting a two-bedroom apartment next week for 10 nights in Majorca. I am doing it through an agency called Casamundo (and Novasol) and it states that I have to pay consumption costs (water, electricity, etc) up front when I get there. It says it will cost me 20 euros a day, so 200 euros for the 10 days - approximately £171 - that is more than I pay for my gas, electricity and water for the whole month - do you think that I am being overcharged for this? The agency does not say about any refunds if you don't use that amount of consumption costs either.

Perhap theres something in this article that will help
    ????

tell them you don't agree with their charges and will go elsewhere. then go elsewhere, where you do agree with their charges. if not enough time then dont.

Yes it's excessive, however what did the website charges page say about extra fees when you booked it. For example I've just had a look at one property in the area via the website you booked on, and it says local taxes of 50c - €1 per person will be payable on arrival. If your original booking quoted these extra charges, then it's a bit late to complain just before you go. However if you had a set price and these fees were not mentioned until a few days before you arrive I would certainly be querying it with the booking firm.

The local taxes are actually on top of the consumption fees - I've been quoted 1 euro a day for each of us (except my 9 year old), so that's another 30 euros on top of the consumption costs - I think that next year I will try and get somewhere where electricity, water, etc are included in the holiday cost.

on the high side. best go with a place that includes fuel costs in the rent price.

Think you'll find in this season the leccy is always extra cos of the AC usage. When I've rented villas they normally record the reading at the beginning of the stay and then at the end. The first €30~ is nearly always free and the most we've ever paid is £40 for a weeks stay. We are careful about wasting electric..

OP, just go for something with water, electricity included in the rent. Less hassle in my opinion.
