Could somebody please help me with some info on a childs car seat? Thanks

I've got this car seat (pic in next post) as I look after my friends little girl 1 day a week (She is 18 months). The seat I've got is suitable from 9 months to 11 years but when I've looked after another child in the past who was a little older than her I had trouble with the straps as they were to tight, in the end he had to sit in the chair with the normal belt accross him. I'm not happy doing this again so I'm looking to change the car seat. Would I be right in thinking that a seat like in the second post would be better as its suitable from birth to about 4 so the straps should be bigger?
Thanks

if the seat is suitable from 9 months to 11 years then how can the straps be too tight for an 18 month old? Am I not following somehow? Is there something you have missed in adjusting the straps somehow?

we have a britax for 0 to 4 yrs ish and then a booster cushion with a back plate that can stay on or come off till they reach the 135 cms in height or whatever it is.

the top seat is designed to be used with a proper seat belt when the insert straps are too small, they are removeable

there aint much difference in the strap lenghts in any of the car seats i have used

Adjust the straps. You should be able to make them fit an 18 mth old just fine. Get someone else to have a look if your stuck.

i have one of each of these for my kids, the top seat should have very long straps when adjusted, mine does, i have my 3yr old in it ( by the was hes as big as a 5yr old) but he also still fits in the smaller of the seats, just looks squashed LOL

Dont really think the straps are bigger in the smaller seat though, to be honest if i was you and it was just for looking after someone 1 day a week i would try again with your existing seat, maybe take from the car and fiddle with the straps, you should be able to adjust them no probs ! will save payiong out for another seat

Because it can be used with the seat belt over the child, just the same as a booster seat so the straps are taken off. The back bit also comes off so it turns into a booster seat.

They are fully adjusted as big as they will go, I've checked.

Maybe I got a dud one!

I can see why you would worry... I'd be concerned the 18 month old would slip down and under the straps of just a normal car strap...

try fiddling with the seat you have already and see if you have missed a way of making the straps adjust further... otherwise I would go ahead and get a new seat.. but dont buy before you go check them out at halfords or mothercare of somewhere and then once you know what you're getting you're free to get it online if its cheaper that way x x

Yeah I'm not having her in it with just the belt over her. At the moment shes fine but as she gets a bit bigger I want her in a bigger seat.
I looked in halfords and the cheapest was £100, the one above is £35 from Argos and has really good reviews.

Astra its an 02 plate

When mine were 2 yrs old they had a seat like the 2nd one but from about 3 they had one like the top. My now 4 yr old has one like the top but uses normal seatbelt and my 7 yr old has a booster seat.

Thanks very much for looking, you've been really helpful.
I'll give you some rep now

"Just curious what type of seats do you guys have for an about 2 year old?"

My little girl is 18 months. I use a Britax Si elite which is ages 1-4 approx and a Brittax 123 in my mum's car which doesn't recline but lasts longer beause it converts to high back booster using the 3 point seat belt. I also found the britax web site good.

I'm thinking this might be better for her?
