Could someone just place a value on this old laptop for me?

Hey,

Done a quick scan of the system using an online scanner. The results can be found here:

It is what it is, an old machine. However, even without top end specs it does alright and runs XP fair enough. Can't confirm XP is genuine or not, no idea.

Any guesses?

500mhz processer, 11 gb capacity HDD, 250mb ram, cd rom... IMO even £30 is wishful thinking, lol

Seen some really poorly specced laptops sell on ebay for what are daft amounts though, people just get carried away lol

Laptop not worth a sook mate .....the Netgear Wireless Adapter is worth about £15 though......maybe ....which is more than the laptop itself.....:-D

This is why I think it's hard to place a valuation on it, been interesting to see the comments.

On one had, it's a perfectly functioning laptop. I have a Dell Mini 9 notebook, and whilst obviously there is a performance difference - the gap isn't huge in my opinion. It is useable for someone to surf the internet and check emails etc and therefore has a value of, in my opinion, upto £80 - £100. At this level, what's the difference between a Pentium III or IV or 256mb RAM or 500mb.

The other arguement is that it is old, possibly upto 8 years old. Whilst all the keys work and the monitor is bright, it is a little noisy. It is slow compared to the modern computers of the day, and doesn't have all the little extras such as DVD readers or inbuilt wireless adaptors. Compared to modern laptops and netbooks and the prices, £40-£50 is the most it is worth.

The debate continues ...

But it's not. It's worth more than that. If I offered it on here as a FS thread as an auction and started at £25, people would bid higher (I know you can't do it).

It is worth more than £25, because it is useful to people as it is.

Obviously I don't know. You see old cars being sold for peanuts, yet they still have a good value to them - even if they were broken up for parts.

I've had this laptop a few years myself, and it was handed down to me. I've purchased more machines since then - didn't really use this to start with. Thought it should be put to some use instead of sitting around as I won't use it now.
