    Council MOT centre

Has anyone used a council mot center before to get your car done rather than using a garage?

yes i have. It was the one in Luton (I am from Milton Keynes myself). Was very quick, was seen at the time I was booked for too. Much better than a local rip off merchant.

Yes just used my local one a few weeks ago. They are great. Did not rip me off. My car is very old and I don't want to see pend too much on it. Did not even have to change the a few things that the garage suggested ig last year but I have to book the council onec4 weeks in advance but worth it save so much money

thanks just rang them and they haven't got anything until the end of june! Mine is due on the 19th May have to try and find someone local now. At least I know for next year

Where do you live? 'We only mot' are good

There are lots of council MOT stations - even if your most local is busy, it's worth a reasonable drive to get to an alternative.

I use them too because they've got no interest in failing you, No pass no fee if it's under 10 years old. Over 10 years like mine you only have to pay £25 and then £20 when it passes. If you decide to scrap it you've only spent £25!.

Just had mine done at a council MOT centre. Got a free retest and was very hassle free.

Council MOT is the next best option then ;), Unless you've got a trustworthy garage that doesn't want to milk you.

what did you do in the mean time though? wouldn't it be illegal to drive it home/ to another garage to fix, pre-retest?

From what I have been reading you can drive it to a garage and to retest but it has to have been booked in for the work/retest beforehand

Always used the council MOT place (even though there's a garage on the corner of my road). The car was an old, minimally maintained runabout, but it still flew straight through the test most years... I doubt any garage would have missed the chance to highlight something or other. Cheaper than most other places, and free retests too...
