    Council Tax

One of my randome thoughts abt council tax!!

    Band Property Value Tax Rates A 40000 948.08 2.37% B 52000 1106.09 2.13% C 68000 1264.11 1.86% D 88000 1422.12 1.62% E 120000 1738.15 1.45% F 160000 2054.17 1.28% G 320000 2370.2 0.74% H 500000 2844.24 0.57% H 1000000 2844.24 0.28% H 2000000 2844.24 0.14%
So .. if these morons in the council had figured out that the rich should pay more, they would have an increased rate as the property value goes up. or at least the same rate.
As you can see from my figure, the rich pays a lot less in terms of percentage!! Imagine someone who is making 15K per year and can only afford living in a small shack. - pays 6% of their GROSS salary on Darn Council Tax and people who earn 300K pays only .9 % of their income.
To put this into perspective, 6 % of 1 year is 21 days! 3 darn weeks of your hard working life is spent on darn council Tax, and oh.... 3 days of the rich dude to pay his council tax.
And now you wonder why the rich is getting richer and the poor is just getting by!
Time to let these people know that we aint doing this anymore! Maybe it's time to run for Council! I should get a lot of vote from people who are in the lower class. And I am stinkin sure that there are a lot more of us than the rich dudes! -

That is a hard post to read.
Any chance you could write it again in Yorkshire so I can understand it

Here you are Steve. I'll summarise it for you.

TinoP thinks council tax should be charged as a percent of your wages so people who earn more pay more.

I tend to agree to be honest.

    I see. :-D
In that case I agree
    Thanks for the translation

    agreed

Council Tax is to pay for local services e.g. Bin emptying, library, sports centre etc.

So, if I earn more than my next door neighbour, should I have to pay more to use exactly the same services? Why should it cost me more to have my bin emptied, why should my library book cost more than his to borrow?

However, if they take away the Council Tax & replace it with a 'Local Income Tax' then I'd be happy to join in:thumbsup:

yeah thats what they are suppose to spend it on:roll:

I dont think we should have to pay it all - is not like we get what we pay for!

Thing is if they do get rid of the Council Tax and thats what its paying for then where is the money going to come from ?? Gordon browns pocket ....NOPE!!!

You have to look at what they would do to find the money to pay for these services, .....they could start at looking at their own bloomin wages,

I heard of a teacher in english at my Academy who became a member of the labour party ang gets £100,000 a year (probably alot more now as that was 15 years ago)....to do what exactly?

speak a few times on the news, go to house of commons now and again and do some paper work HUH!!
and thats just one of them :x :x

A council worker got about £60,000 a year and didnt do a days work - he was supposed to fix the street lamps but was off sick, still got paid for being 'on call' though

Couldn't agree more with the original sentiment.

My net disposable income isn't great but the value of my London house is silly by comparison, luckly I house share so the cost. Any council tax that ignores the total household income is pretty much criminal.
