I read last week sometime about the new rules for council tax single occupancy discounts,I think it was via a newspaper but cannot find the article now and have since cleared the pc's history can anyone help?

The article was about stopping the single occupancy discount for those who had a partner stay for more than 1 night per week

a friend told me this too, also something about them seeing who you text/call etc, to see if you have 'friends' stay over, i think that is ott and probably nonsense tho

but what if the person using the car is sleeping with the whole street?

can they just pretend that they are going to one address, so everyone else can claim single occupancy?

i dont think its just if the car is parked outside, maybe insurance/tax/registration documents if they are registered at that address

careful tho, if you start trying to get round it, you may face charges of fraud, best be honest about it, give them a ring

Wow, what a pointless simplification (and wrong). Firstly, the person must be accused of a crime (which is a crime in both countries) and then:

The relevant crime is sufficiently serious.
There exists a prima facie case against the individual sought.
The extradited person can reasonably expect a fair trial in the recipient country.
The likely penalty will be proportionate to the crime.

The extradition act 2003 actually sorted out a huge extradition mess which has existed for a very long time. It protects you more than ever.

Oh and of course if somebody commits a crime here, we can equally get them back. How awful is that?

    has there been posts deleted?

better tel that to the guy accused of hacking nasa then, his story was on R4 y day, the law was changed after he was caught.

Just saying what was on the program so aunty beeb must be wrong too, it was tagged to a new law and whent through the lords despite opposition, I was horified they said " no need for prima facia " however if we want an American back we have to provide prima facia,

    bbc.co.uk/ipl…3x2

listen from 38min 20sec to 39min ok this is a play but it is based on FACT

unless I am wrong I presume the part from the lords is based on what was said. As I was not there I can only go on what I hear

In fact the story is quite good, first time I've ever listened to R4

Exactly, none of what you said in your original post was anything but an over-simplification. Extradiction is normal, ratification to equalise the rules we offer the US is happening as we speak anyway. Furthermore, the UK would not extradite without reason, regardless of prima farcie.

To add to that, that man broke the law and deserves to be tried for the crime.

wouldn't that be an infringement of your human rights?
This will just result in more people moving in together before they are ready and paying full price between two people is less for the council than they would get from two people paying single person rates.

no, councils now have the right to 'spy' on you, check your bank accounts, credit history etc, under RIPA

And some people want ID cards.......just imagine what they will be able to do then!

scary stuff really. I mean what if you have a long distance relationship for some reason and you stay for days at a time?

its not fair anyway, how are you supposed to get into a relationship if you cant have 'stay overs' lol, isnt that a natural part of building a relationship then leading to 'living together' - i mean who wants to invite a bloke to move in without checking if he snores! :giggle:

I spend a couple of nights a week with my girlfriend either at my house or her house. We both claim single occupency. I think as long as both are registered as council tax payers then there won't be a problem.

    20%!

its 25% nationwide. Councils cannot set their own rates.

What is the rule about a married couple who live in separate houses for whatever reason. Does the Council take full council tax off both people or can both claim a single occupancy.

Both can claim. You don't have to be divorced, just as long as only one adult lives there.

Can I claim single occupancy if I make the wife sleep in the car at night?
