Cover note for temp car ?

I'm taking my car into a Honda dealership on monday and wanted a courtesy car.

So i phoned my insurance and they said it would cost £30 to cover me.

I have never had to pay before.

    Is this the norm?

Isn't it covered under the dealership's policy?

just about to phone them back to find out ......

It should usually be either covered by the garage or you pay them a small fee (£10 from experience)

Many moons ago when I worked in car insurance, we used to do temp additional vehicles for policyholders and more often than not, there would be a charge.

it should be on the dealership policy if your car is going in for warrenty repairs, if its outside of warrenty the garage may insist you place the car on your insurance.

Temp cover note prices depend on insruance companies... you get what you pay for these days, get a cheap premium and any extras are chargable. --

    Who you insured with ?

your car policy should cover you 3rd party for any car that isn't owned … your car policy should cover you 3rd party for any car that isn't owned by you, unless you want fully comp cover

NOT all insurance poilcies allow 3rd party cover for another car not owned by you.

You need to check the small print, (like above, you get what you pay for.)

Also, the dealer will not allow you to take their car only 3rd party

If you pay Honda £10 they'll cover you.

unable to get covered under honda insurance as 3rd party, the excess is £1500 anyway !!

so my only option is my own insurance.

Only need the car to get back to work basically, so might have to use their pick up service, which i don't really want to do, as i don't really want anyone driving or maybe thrashing my car !!!!

Same here, i even phoned back twice to speak to different people but they both said the same.

    Oh well.

Have now cancelled my appointmnet on monday and have booked it in at a closer dealership which i can get to in my lunch hour, will drop it off, have arranged for them to drop me back at work and will then get a lift back to the dealership after work to collect my car.

I only booked it in at the other dealership as that's where i bought the car from.

I see your point but in practice they have as much of a chance of thrasing your car while it is there for servicing if they take it for a spin to check if all is ok...
