    Coving

Just decorating the room and mrs has asked for coving to be fitted.

Now, is coving still modern or is she stuck in the 80s.

Anyone with a new build... do they have coving fitted.

    cheers

Isn't it all down to personal taste?

My advice - keep the Mrs happy - and besides - does it matter as long as you both like it?

Coving does look smart. I would get an expert to install one though as you need to get the corners perfect else if will look bad.

    yep it is....

She likes it, i aint sure

I have it it mine (not newby) then we extended the front room. So we bought some of the poly stuff you can't tell the difference with it to the original. Easy to fit.

Look at it this way, at least with coving you don't have to paint all the way to the ceiling!
Or if you have painted to the ceiling, and like me...ended up with paint on the ceiling aswell, then the coving will cover that aswell. Win/Win

I've been in a good few new builds and have never been in one that has coving...but coving = money, developers are not spending money on something the buyer might rip down.

Shall we open a book on who's going to win this one?!!

Think it depends on the room - living room and dining room I'd say it looks neater - I wouldn't bother with other rooms though....

We had our garage converted and after it was done i put up coving as we felt it finished off the room.

I have a new build, coving in every room

    house or apartment/flat?

As thought I best come back and inform that the new builds I've been in are apartments and flats, not houses!

    House

You're right though, friends of mine that live in the flats do not have coving - wonder why that is?

I put coving up in all our rooms except the kitchen and bathroom and it does finish the rooms nicely. It is not that hard to do and the cuts are simple once you get your head around it. I bought mine from Wickes, they do 2 sizes, and they sell a piece of plastic that shows you where and at what angle to cut the coving. The only thing I would suggest is getting some nails to hold the coving up whilst the adhesive dries (you can fill the holes with polyfiller afterwards).

I personally think it looks ok, at least you ain't getting Artex now that is going back to the 80s :w00t:

Nothing wrong with coving. If you need to run a cable round a room it is a good place to hide it.
