My friends daughter recently had a taxi driver pull in front of her and slam on the brakes, Within minutes there were three other taxis there claiming to be witnesses, This is happening more and more often and i am just wondering if anyone else here has been affected ?.

I live near to that roundabout and drive on it quite often. Anyone that does this sort of thing should get big sentences and banned for life from driving. Insurance is dear enough without clowns like this guy making ALL of us car drivers pay more. You can bet that just this guys antics has possibly put at least quid on everyone's car insurance. £1.6 million is a lot of money for the insurers to get back.

Unfortunately without any other witnesses at hand your friends daughter is a bit screwed, and to assume that this is a crash for cash would be a mistake, if you are certain, then you would have to do some research into the driver involed and his witnesses to be sure this could take ages, in the mean time they will just claim money from insurance regardless. Its a shame cos if your right your friends daughter is the only one who will suffer as it will affect her confidence and up her insurance premium.

Fortunately there were some genuine witnesses nearby who saw it and said it was obviously staged but whether the insurance will even bother listening to them is another matter,Its too easy for them to just pay up,

exactly thats the problem insurance company would rather keep their cost to a minimum so by just admitting liability and paying up they save em selves a few bob, if she genuinly thinks its staged then she should stand up and fight the claim, its likely if they have done it before they would have some form of pattern i.e. one claims tghe others witness etc might be worth asking the insurers to look into any other claims under their names etc but most likely get nowhere thats the most annoying thing cos ultimately its the grils that suffers

In fact, if your confident that you have a strong enough case. Maybe, you should be taking them acourt, to risk of health, both physcial and mental, as well as damage to vehcle as well. I know it would cost money, by sounds of things, you would easily win in ny book. You would also be doing something for society, and stoping this idiot from causing a serious accient one day.

just realised im not really helping much. I hope your friend gets it sorted.

The police know about this, & there are a few 'companies' who are known for doing it. I don't know how they are going to stop it, but you have to report it. If they get so many reports about the same people, they can then step in.

A colleague at work had it happen to them a few weeks ago - this guy was weaving all over infront of him on a bypass, then tried to side-swipe him, then went in front again & slammed on. Some of these people even use an Accident Management Company (AMC) who provide a complete service to the claimant, from arranging their car hire – the cost of which often exceeds the value of their own car – to coaching them in what to say to a doctor.

It's got to be stopped, so make sure if it happens to you or anyone you know, that it is reported.
