If you were saving a lot instead of waiting a lot you would be ok now then.

Best way to treat your family is not landing them in loads of debt in January.

how big is your family if you need a couple more thousand oO

christmas is not about how much money you spend or how great your prezzies are....

OP, it's up to you if you want a credit card - if you know you'll have the money to make the repayments and are gonna be sensible with it then go for it.

If it's your first card though, I'm not sure you'll get a credit limit in the thousands tbh.

There is usually nothing to pay unless there is an outstanding balance on the card. If you pay it off in full when the statement arrives, there will be no interest there either (only for purchases, not for cash withdrawals). Seriously though, avoid getting into debt (especially just for Christmas) as you'll still be paying it off next Christmas, and that's not a good situation to be in. If you haven't go tthe money to spend on your family, I am sure they will understand. Maybe spend some quality time with them, or make them presents instead of buying them.

Get another job

Are you saying, the more cards you have the bigger the limit?
Also, Balance transfers .. does that mean, once I get the card, I can transfer that x amount and not pay any extra APR for say 16 months (apart from the normally like a 2-3% for xfer fee?).

try get a credit card with a low interest rate on it - don't take out cash on it and make sure you can meet the repayments + more to get it paid off or try taking out another one with zero percent balance transfer when you buy your gifts and switch the balance meaning you will just be paying it off rather than added interest

i know its hard time of year so know exactly where you are coming from - see no need to take the moral high ground hope everything works out for you

I dont understand these type of threads. its not like its just been announced that Christmas will be on the 25th December. If money is tight then you need to organise yourself a bit better - start picking things up throughout the year and put it away for Christmas.

Dont get credit for Christmas presents - I could never enjoy myself knowing that all the gifts havent been paid for - thats just AWFUL.

I dont have any credit cards but if the op wants to get one then they're an adult it's up to them, i think he was asking where he could get good deals, not for life advice.

That may be so, but sometimes "life advice" is taken on board and in this case could help the OP from getting further into debt.

Chances of OP being eligible for a decent rate credit card = 0..
Should focus more on putting a little by each week to save and just splurge in the last weeks.

Can't see the banks offering the OP credit to be honest, likely that the only place that will offer them credit will rip them a new hole. Unfortunately OP will still probably go for it.
