Credit Card Secondary Card Holder Protection Loophole

Beware when using a credit card if you are not the main card holder on the account. There is a loophole in the Consumer Credit Act relating to credit card refunds in the event of a breach of contract.

See here for full article computeractive.co.uk/com…dit

I will be applying for a card in my own name now. I buy or book almost everything online as a secondary card holder and have never come across this but not worth the risk especially with holidays

Thanks for letting us know..........NEVER knew that, very interesting !......;)

just amazes me that no one else is concerned about this or don't they have a 2 card credit card?

I'd be surprised if the card company can prove which cardholder it was - I recently had some CASH withdrawn showing on my statement so I rang to query it (we never use the CC for cash!!!) they couldn't tell me which card it was, as they are identical - so now I assume it was hubby using the wrong card like a moron (he very rarely pays for anything). Now with the PIN rather than the signature in shops - how would they know??

On our statement it clearly shows which card was used - they both have different numbers.

Had the following reply from Barclaycard today which I will be saving, as it was barclaycard in the article. Would be worth contacting your card provider and asking them.

    Thank you for your e-mail.

I can confirm that the additional cardholder is covered for breach
of contract under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.

I trust this information is of assistance.

Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact
    me again.

    Kind regards

Mine are both Tesco Clubcard Credit cards, (mastercard BOS I think) and they are identical in every way except the name on the front. Even the security numbers are the same, and the cha on the phone said they couldn't tell me which one was used in the cash point.

ours are Tesco mastercards but we have different pin numbers and also different names on the front. Come to think of it when I queried a recent transaction they said it was internet and asked if my husband could have done it. I asumed they meant with my card but maybe they can't tell? [query was a false alarm]
