    Credit Score

Just signed up for free trial at Experian and have found that i owe O2 £13 which has now defaulted.
I spoke to O2 last year who said it was a mistake and i didn't owe them anything.
If i just pay the £13 will that remove it and increase my credit score? Or do i need to speak to a certain person in O2 and get them to remove it?

    Thanks

You would have to get it removed from your credit file via O2

i've got the email address of the customer service director if you need to do an email?

That would be bloody well fantastic.

I dont think one small payment like that will have a big effect?

Are you sure? Even if its only a couple of points its still showing as defaulted

Yep, it would be a great idea to get removed - as far as I know default accounts are all bad regardless of value and stay on file for upto six years!

Requested credit expert to get in contact with 02. They did and they managed to get it removed.

Credit score has now jumped quite a lot, 162 to be exact.

Would recommend others to ask credit expert to look into it if they feel a debt shouldn't be there,

The "score" on credit expert means NOTHING at all. Absolutely nothing.

    Eh?

How can it mean nothing, surely it represents the score you get from thier assessment of your credit worthiness.

Just because it's not used elsewhere, banks/credit companies, doesn't mean it has no value.

I can assure you it has NO value whatsoever when it comes to assessing your credit worthiness. It is purely a random number - an experian marketing gimmick to generate them income. It is well known that their credit score means nothing.

To illustrate my point, there are many occurances on MSE of people with a bankruptcy on their file getting a score of over 900. Please research this a bit before dismissing what I am saying. It is a joke that Experian can get away with phrasing it as a credit score when it isn't. They do not decide whether to give you credit, the lender does.

It is NOT used by a single lender. Lenders have their own criteria to determine how worthy you are for credit. They query your credit file held by Experian (which does not include Experians score) and decide for themselves whether you pass/fail.

Sorry, but that is a fact.
