well i think it is a yes/no, 100 years is a long time, dont think you will need to worry about it after that

they are wiped after a while......but not really....they are always there for the police to see and you have to declare them for immigration or visa purposes or any other kind of official purposes if asked if you have had 1

    Also on the sentence,
3+ Years stays on your record for life (along with a lifetime firearms and pyrotechnics ban = I cant even buy bloody rockets for use in the back yard)
Schedule 1 offences (offences against children) also stay for life (as they should)
    So do sex offences.

Reasons for a record check also mean different periods for things that show for example:

However when applying to work with kids all offences show, and I mean all, Mrs Harlzter had a CRB done as she helps in the classroom 1 afternoon a week and it shown a 10 year old conviction for no road tax - made me laugh as she said she had never been in trouble.

so the enhanced crb will show everything, even from 30 year agp

Afraid so! Are you going for classroom assistant/helper? The school can use their judgement and discretion so your 30 year old conviction may not overly matter, the enhanced crb is only as a guide.

What makes me laugh is our friend works at the school as a lollipop lady so had to have one done, she also helps in a classroom at the same school as it is a different posistion, she also is a relief dinnerlady at the same school, and you've guessed it, she had to have a 3rd one done! She is thinking of applying for a cleaners job too!:w00t:

    okey dokey thanks guys x

Your OP asked whether your criminal record is ever cleared.
You actually wanted to know whether any crimes on there are "spent" after a certain period of time.

As Halzter said, all but very serious things get wiped after a while (I thought the timeframe was 10 years, but stand to be corrected.)

A mate of mine that emigrated had what I'd reckon to be a very serious one on his record (something to do with fraud - but the amount was about £30K). He took a chance on his application (as it was over 10 years) and all went well. (He was crapping it that it wouldn't)

Obviously the police can see everything - including expired items. I'm not convinced that checks such as these peel back that extra layer.

I'm sure Sassie appreciated your patronising post. (Seriously)

i had a caution years ago that used to show up on crb check but it didnt on my last one

I recieved a 8 month area ban for getting into a fight in the town centre on as night out. Had to even declare this for my Cuban Visa. (holiday)

Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 it can be 'spent' after a certain period, however it remains on your record permanently. When a CRB check is conducted (if spent) it should not show up on a standard disclosure but will on an enhanced disclosure. If it does show up on a standard disclosure, you are entitled to contact the Police Data Officer and request reclassification. She/he will consider the conviction and action accordingly (although this is no guarantee that it will change, and specific timelines apply to certain convictions and/or imprisonment)

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 goes out of the window if you're working with children or vulnerable adults i.e. NHS, Social Services etc, and thus it must be declared.

    Hope this helps.

ive had things around 12/13 years ago show up on mine:) and you have to declare all convictions regardless if yhey have been spent or not. although they wont neccesarily harm your applications depending on what you are applyng for, but if its emigrating like myself if you keep these things from them and they later on come to light after you have signed a declaration your visa can be revoked......so honesty really is the best policy
