Currys - Advertising Samsung 5 Year TV Guarantee which doesn't exist

Posted 6th Aug 2021
I purchased a Samsung TV from Currys online which I'm happy with however when I tried to register the advertised 5 year guarantee with Samsung I was told they do not provide this with TV's purchased from Currys!

The TV was a 2020 model and is no longer showing on the website but I do have a screenshot from my browser showing the advertised 5 year guarentee (shown below).

Currys still show this for numerous other Samsung TV's and when I rang their useless customer services they didn't seem to understand it as they couldn't find the product on their own website anymore!

Other than returning the perfectly good TV is there anything I can do to resolve this?

Thanks.

Thanks lyesbkz. I called them again and went through to the care plan …Thanks lyesbkz. I called them again and went through to the care plan department this time and they have confirmed that it is with them! They're send the details out to me now. A bit of clarity around this on their website or with my order confirmation might have been useful but at least it is sorted now. Thanks again

Good you got it sorted, bad you have the warranty with Curry’s.

In future go to Richer Sounds, proper customer service and a 6yr guarantee. (edited)

If you click on the "5 year guarantee included" box on one of the current Samsung QE TVs on Currys, it goes to Currys own Care & Repair page. I suspect the 5 year guarantee advertised is a service provided by Currys (e.g. something like 5 free years of their own Care & Repair service), rather than a 5 year manufacturer's guarantee.

I suggest you contact Currys and ask them for the exact details of your guarantee (full details on who it's with, how it works, what it covers and excludes). Then you can decide if you're happy with those terms or you'd rather return and buy elsewhere

Do a chargeback, then they will understand.

The warranty was probably being offered by Samsung and you had to register your TV to activate the warranty. For example, here's the latest link from Samsung to activate the 5 year warranty.

Agree with @lyesbkz - will be covered by Currys themselves rather than the manufacturer. (edited)

I would normally have gone to Richer Sounds/Costco/John Lewis but as it was the exact 2020 model which I wanted only Currys still had stock!

Richer sounds is just as bad, they give you a voucher if they can't repair your TV minus depreciation so if your TV needs repair in the 6th year you only get a % back rather than the repair or full replacement. Avoid at all costs.
