Cut the power cord on a Lawnmower - Advice needed.

Unfortunately cut the power cable on the lawnmower (Bosch Ergoflex), done some research on the internet but require advice on the exact part required to mend the cable. The cable connector (IP68 compliant ?) needs to be waterproof to avoid moisture getting into the wires. If anyone can point me to the part and requirement it would be appreciated. The closest shops are Wickes, Maplins and Homebase, although would consider purchasing from the internet from a reputable company with reasonable postage and packing.

I got my replacement cable last year through Amazon, very cheap, so worth doing a search with them.

congratulations btw on you still being alive

Bloody hell that was quick! Seriously thank you mumbojumbo for your input. I saw your solution on another thread, but also read there was other options available. If this is an acceptable solution (as i'm concerned over electrocution caused by moisture or water getting into the wiring), then I'll be pleased as it appears to be simplistic to re-wire.

Don't worry always use an extension cable with power surge protection and automatic cut-off. Although very carefully with electrics being a technician in another industry. But yes very fortunate and relieved.

It doesn't really hurt that much. It hurts more being bitten by a dog. A bit of pvc tape will do the job. Its only dangerous if you've got a dodgy ticker.

I cut the power cord on my hedge trimmer yesterday, wish I was more of a man and could fix it

I didn't. But others may not have twigged yet

My husband borrowed our neighbours lawn mower and cut straight through the cable. He fixed it with some plug thingy he got on ebay for a couple of pounds (some sort of 2 pin plug, you attach one side of plug to each end of the broken wire then attach them together with the plug)
Needless to say its now my job to cut the grass and we've bought our own mower!

Nono that is disgusting. You should have replaced the entire cable or bought them a new mower and kept the repaired one.

Not that it has anything at all to do with you, but we offered them either the cash to replace it or we would go out and replace it, they totally refused to let us and said they had done it loads of times before and it was easy to fix

if you are worried about it getting wet the cut the cable near the mower and add a new bit of cable its nice and tidy too as you can remove the whole cable for storage.

Thats probably why you have no friends.
We did not abuse their property, simply had an accident. We asked numerous times whether they wanted us to replace the mower, or if they wanted the cash to choose their own and they refused. We get on well with our neighbours, they were fine about it, and had done it themselves before.

I cut through my cable close to the mower handle and wish i had not undone the control switch it all fell out and it looks very hard to put back I would recommend joining the cable were it was cut.
