cycle route, canal towpaths, lincolnshire, east midlands area?

Found 8th Aug 2010
Wonder if anyone can help. I live near Stamford on the south lincs border. I remember speaking to someone a year or so ago who told me of a new stretch of canal that had been opened for walking cycling etc. I got the impression this was a long stretch of towpath that had millions spent on it and is used all the time now by families. It was probably opened in the last 2-3 years. He said it was great to take kids but I cant remember where. All I remember is that it was no more than 30 mins drive from Stamford to get there.
Anybody have any idea as i want to take my sons cycling. We have been to rutland water but want to try a towpath.

Check out the maps at Sustrans:

Navigate to Stamford and keep an eye on the window on the right, sounds like you mean the the Derby canal path.

Thank you both are great sites for me to start. The sustrans map is great. Not sure it was the derby canal as that is probably a bit further than i thought but still doable for a day out.
The forum is great it seems happy to answer typical family cycling stuff as well as the serious lycra cyclists.
Thanks to you both.
There's a massive cycle path around peterborough which takes in ferry meadows, rutland water obv, I did a nice one last year near yarwell, just up the a1
Hi Sancho yes i have heard of one near Yarwell will have to check that out. One of my friends even camped at Yarwell over the weekend with his children so he may know.
