Cylcing shoes - Cleats don't seem to fit into pedal? Exustar branded cleats (SPD compatible)

Found 8th Jan 2016
Bought some Shamino m530 pedals off eBay (second hand - barely used) and was sent some Exustar spd cleats with it.

I've attached the cleats onto the shoes, but noticed there's not much clearance between the pedals to clip in?
I'm a complete novice, so not sure if its just me doing something wrong or if I need to make some minor adjustments.

I've attached some photos in first post of shoe/cleat/pedal - thanks guys

You may need to reduce the resistance on the pedal. You'll need a small Allen key 3 or 4 MM I think, you'll see a + and - sign by the hole just turn toward the - this should make it easier to clip in. Do both sides of each pedal.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just tried doing that both sides on each pedal and still no luck.

The cleat itself doesn't seem to fit inside the pedal? but how is that possible, since it says its compatible with spd's?

Is the pedal shown in the picture broken ? I only ask as it looks like a metal bit is missing on the back inside. Do they both look the same. Difficult to compare to my own as I don't have the black outter part.
pedals look ok, the cleat looks to be this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-mtb-pedal-cleats-shimano-spd-compatible/
the cleat is facing the right way on the shoe,

have you tried putting the shoes into the pedal with them on your feet whilst your on the bike, leant against a fence or wall for balance. as they dont always engage too well when you are doing it manually with hands

Check this out - shouldn't it slide in? I dismantled it to test...

I can't seem to get them in with force with my hands. I will try doing it with the shoes on now, will report back and edit this post.

EDIT: tried whilst wearing the shoes, still no luck - doesn't clip in.

Yep done that on both sides to the maximum setting.

I can't believe the person spent £9.48 including delivery on this piece of junk (have invoice), when they could've bought the original Shimanos at that price. The person bought these for me, after forgetting to include cleats with the pedals which I bought off eBay. Apparently the cleats sold on another auction with the shoes they had up. If we're not able to come to a conclusion on here, I will pop down to Halfords tomorrow. If still unsuccessful, I will inform the person the cleats they ordered me are not compatible.
It's a common thing on ebay for sellers to take cleats out and sell them separately.

Yeah I know, bought these second hand though (stated cleats included in description - the person was selling on behalf of her boyfriend so didn't know).
Keep trying while wearing the shoes, it may be that you just haven't quite gotten a hang of how it clips in
Have you tried with your feet? It can take a lot of force. Don't set the pedal so wide otherwise your feet won't stay attached.
You don't slide your feet in you clip in from the top.

also look at the shoes might need to trim the soles
