Damn wasps have foiled me

They made a decoy nest in the attic, found the main nest though but can't get to it so will have to pay for some poison I guess

Does anyone know if the soapy water actually kills them or just stuns them for a bit? they look pretty dead

I have tackled a wasps nest myself. I dressed myself up in layers of net curtain and used a wasp nest spray from Tesco. They were almost dead in half an hour. The nest fell to pieces and I scooped the lot up into a refuse sack and took it to the dump. Scarey business toy.

call the council and ask what your options are, tell them you are petrified of wasps.

Dustpan and brush,not the hoover!

Had a one at the side of the house. Emptied two full cans of fly spray into it at point blank while screaming like a girl and waving my arms around like a loon.

I call vacumn cleaners hoovers, actually dustpan is usually shovel in here too.
Make sure you empty the Dyson then,I gather they bagless.
If I had them to pick up I'd bin them, not hoover up with my Henry, wouldn't want them in there until the bag needed changing.

I figured this thread was useless without video and pictures, there was about 50 dying wasps on the floor when I went up there later on.

Why would you want to kill off wasps. unless of course they're a positive threat ?

They are Incredible insects which do a lot of good.

I had 5 buzzing around inside my window where I'm sat, when I go into the attic they start buzzing past my head and it ***** me up when they do that ;-)

plus they seem to be eating the arches in my attic, keep finding saw dust underneath their nest.

Fair enough.

Their nests are made of extremely fine wood which they gather usually from rotten sources in my experience. I've had some this year making a nest from an old tree trunk,
I would hazard a guess the "sawdust" is coming from the building /expansion of the nest but I doubt they are eating your arches. I could be wrong though.

They do frighten people silly because they come very close but it's extremely unusual for them to sting (or attack) unless they are provoked.
I've allowed them to walk all over my arm and hands without getting a sting but I've seen them sting others because people tend to flail their arms around trying to fend them off.

Anyway not trying to preach but if they are not a threat then they really should be left because they do a hell of a job in the environment.
The other reason is the dramatic decline in the bee population and wasps can help pollinate.

Take care lumoruk

think I'm going to need someone in as the wasps that came out of the nest were pretty alert as if they hadn't been touched by the foam.

We used an old smoke bomb to take out a massive nest in our attic. Couldn't go back in the house for about 12 hours though. Don't think the wasp smoke bombs are legal anymore but they bl**dy well did the job!

I'm petrified of wasps, I'm allergic to stings and I get really scared when I see one flying around.

I'm surprised at the size of the nest, it was tiny, I thought it'd be huuuuuuuugge!!

Sloth/Mod

I got stung by one a couple of days ago............i'm now waging war on them. :x

Don't even know why wasps exist........they do absolutely nothing and have no place in the food chain.

EXTERMINATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SuperEd

sorry yes that was a decoy nest they built last year, i thought it was a bit small too for all the wasps I was getting. I eventually found the main nest at the top of the attic but I can't get to it as it's through a gap. I went up there again last night and gave it a whack with that pole and emptied the can on them, loads came out so ran.

Got a picture of the massacre from yesterday but left my camera in the attic will go up there again today sometime when I get my nerves back.

Hi Sy !! Please have a rethink. (No preaching):geek:

eartheasy.com/liv…htm

There are many more references on the net to the good that wasps do, especially in these times of the decline of bees.

Remember......

There's a place in this world and a purpose for every living thing, it's only when it gets in the way of humans that it becomes a pest! ( This excludes Big Brother contestants who can neither be thought of as human or animal or indeed in most cases, living.) :w00t:

Here's a better one hopefully. ] Wasp Control.

ace thread.haha! love the vid mate,it's absolutely great! i'm also irrationally scared of the beasts, but managed to get the courage to oust some from one of my sheds at the allotment, though to be fair the nest was only the size of a golf-ball and there was only a couple living in it. brave or what?!
