I've newly started driving and I'm looking for a dash cam. I've seen that dash cam blokes vids on youtube and he's listed M6+ and G1W and a few others. Apart from that theres the mobius which is quite small and doesn't have a screen which is perfect as I'd rather it not be too big.

But in regards to setting the perfect angle how would that be done or is that a bit of a hit and miss? How tedious are they to operate and maintain?

cheers

With the mobius you can set it up with a laptop. You take the sd card out of the dash cam and that turns the device into webcam mode which is what you need so adjust the position. This is based upon what I've read online. I've ordered 2 of them. 1 for the front and one for the back of my car.

Remember to declare it to your insurance company. Some don't care but some are known to increase premiums if you have a dashcam (idea being that although you install it to prove others fault, it works both ways and can be incriminating... as well as being another reason for tealeaves to break in.) as you're a new driver, it could be expensive.

ive tried looking in the main insurance firms and none suggest this to be the case? Is there a particular firm that does this?

That's very interesting and good info.
I was thinking about a dashcam, but will ask my insurance company first now.

Möbius.

I ordered my through banggood. Read the comments on the link page I gave you as there are details about discount codes

It comes with basic mounting kit but I'll probably pick up something cheap from the high street that let's me fix it to the window and see how that goes.

Rubbish. Insurance companies are actually giving a discount now because a dashcam makes it far easier and quicker to sort claims out.

Two I know definitely off top of my head are Admiral and Hastings. As I said, it's dependant and AXA even offer a discount (http://www.axa.co.uk/insurance/personal/car/dashcams/) as do rac (but it's more cashback as you have to buy their dashcam) so it really is best just to ask what your company's approach is.

some are offering discounts, some don't care, some are increasing premiums which is why I upfront said to check.
AXA/swiftcover (same company), flux and rac state they give discounts I haven't seen any more. Rac you have to buy theirs for 60 to get a 30 discount iirc, and flux have a narrow list of approved cams. I've said above, admiral and Hastings are known to increase but, as with all insurance, it could be dependant on the individual/area/car too... directline,, for example, say cams must be declared as a mod, and whilst they may not care either way, you may get an admin fee (as if they don't get enough already).

In a sane world, all companies should provide a discount, but it's not the case quite yet. I still think they're worth it anyway because it eases any claims process should it be needed and could be the difference between fault/no fault (if your company accepts the footage), making the investment worthwhile.

all i could find on admiral and hastings is that they don't offer discounts, but there is nothing about increased premiums.

One is first hand from a friend running the dept, I started a discussion about the best ones insurers prefer (assuming that premiums would reduce like everyone else) and was told that they've increased premiums for some customers. The other is only from car club forums where people have reported increases after calling their company (again, assuming they'd get money back)

Edit - A quick search found this example from earlier this year forums.moneysavingexpert.com/sho…405

Who knows, in that crazy world of money grabbing insurers hopefully yours won't have any trouble with it, or even a decrease! Let us all know though, would you?
