What did your local club say when you asked them?

The missus is going over there on Monday to ask ... but seeing as I'll be paying I was just wondering what to expect.

Guy I work with says it costs him £70 a month and he admits to not using it.

Hmm, OK. Am hoping the one in Newcastle is a bit cheaper. Have heard you can haggle too. She's going to ask for a 3 month trial which I think is free at the moment.

I was just about to post a thread about Cheap Gyms in Bristol?

I heard of Fitness4Less but its crazy to park in town! its to far to walk/run there either!

I saw that on the website - is it actually free? im sure you pay for 3 months?

£70 something per month down here in Southampton. Think there is a price rise in Jan too. Make sure u read the small print as membership is usually for min. 12 months and requires 3 months notice to cancel. It's not 3 months free - just only tied in for 3 months rather than 12.
So still £70 X 3

What's the "new member package worth £175"?

well it says when you join so no doubt you will have to be in contract for at least a year, and it probably refers to classes, sessions with fitness instructors etc

The new member packages are usually naff things like vouchers for the cafe or personal trainers, maybe a david lloyd dressing gown, gym bag, towels, that sort of thing. As I said, the three month membership is just you're contracted for 3 months rather than 12.

Thanks for that. it says:

"# Your membership will continue on a monthly basis at the end of the initial term. However, you can change your membership to a standard 12-month contract at any point. The three months you have already had will then form part of your main 12-month initial term. If you want to take up this option you must contact the membership team at your club.*"

Does this mean you can just have a rolling monthly contract after the initial 3 months is up and not be tied in for the full 12?

Don't think it works like that - I think the three months would go on to count towards ur 12 months (so another 9 months).
And do check about the price rise in Jan - be aware that they do this every year. They will also give u some rubbish about joining fees, but I've never know anyone actually pay them. Just read everything really carefully as they can make leaving very difficult!

I went to the one in Newcastle , joined around this time last year , I remember getting a 3 month contract and getting an additional 2 months free, might be worth waiting to see if that offer happens again, I Piad £65 a month I think after that , very nice gym and pool though . Was easy to cancel, just give 1 months notice , and I did pay the joining fee - didn't see an opportunity not to lol???

At Dartford branch I pay the recently increased price of £86.55 per month for a full single person membership.

You can have a 3 month membership, price is around £110 per month.

Off peak (Weekdays before 4pm and weekends after 2pm) is approx £55 per month.

If you can find someone else to join with you, although you have to live at the same address (or construct a utility bill on your PC that says you do) then you can get joint membership for £65 a month (bill comes from one bank account).

Interesting, thanks. I think we could manage £65 but no more. Is that just for the gym/pool membership or does that include rackets, etc? She just wants the most basic gym/pool one really.

Assuming the joint price of £65 is per person?! Would be a great deal if that was for both.

The new membership pack worth £175 is crap! its literally a few deals for Saks hairdressing and stuff and then a voucher for 20% off in the david lloyd shop which is well overpriced anyway!

Iv got a membership in Nottingham and its £73 per month for gym and swimming facilities, its over £80 if I wanted rackets aswell!

A lot of clubs do an off peak through the day if she's at home. Not sure about David Lloyd though.

Just found out I can discount via work. £57.25 pm for full membership. And apparently if we wait until after 1st December, they give the rest of December for free and just charge from Jan. Also no signup fees but a cancellation fee of £30 if we cancel before the end of 12 months.

Gonna check out what their standard rate is first though.

Anyone got any more information on the 3 month term. I'm starting a 3 month Job near a David Lloyd Gym so hoping to tie the 2 together.

I think it's dependent on the location - best go into your local one and deal with them directly. Everyone pays different amounts depending on how well you can haggle them.

Watch out your 3 month cancelation ends up being 4 as they want 3 months clear we cancelled in October and had to pay nov, dec,jan and feb as we neeeded to can cel b4 the 10th Oct so watch out..............................I have been made redundant and can no longer afford to pay we have had a family membership £178.00 per month for the last 6 years always paid on time they dont care we still have to pay and because of their mistake ie saying they did not get cancel letter [always hand deliver your cancellation letter and any mail to your gym and get a receipt] we have to pay until April membership cancels May 1st.......................No cust service at all i am on 60.00 jobseekers they do not care i have tried everything .....................

Why is david lloyd so expensive
