    Decent Digital Camera Wanted

Looking to buy a decent digital camera at the end of May for my holidays. Looking to spend no more than 250 quid.

The more gadgety (sp?) it is the better. oh, and a decent optical zoom preferred.

    Any good deals out there?

Advice from any photographer appreciated too as I am a biff when it comes to cameras.

I would go for Canon Ixus if you are looking for compact camera. The best digi cameras at the moment in my opinion, prices vary, better spec starting £170.

Ok cool. If I'm honest though, they seem a little big and ugly?

I recently bought ]this from UK Digital Cameras.

Excellent camera for the money at only £155.99 plus delivery (approx £6). It has come down in price by nearly a tenner since I bought it 6 weeks ago. Price includes a 2 year warranty. Jessops currently selling it at £199 with a 1 year warranty. When I was comparing prices when I was purchasing it the cheapest I could find was £159.95 with a one year warranty.

Memory cards for these are around £12.99 from play.com for a 2gb xd card (don't forget quidco!!)

I have this. It is small and gives excellent results. Small means you carry it with you and use it more.
Bought from this site. Excellent service . Check out their 'bundles' .

It's the Canon Ixus 860is . If that's too big , try looking at the Casio .

Anyone got anything else? I was thinking about a Ricoh, but not sure.

The Panasonic DMC-TZ2, TZ3 or the latest TZ5 are excellent cameras, but they're not ultra-compact. They have 10x optical zoom on them and they get very good reviews on their image quality. You can get the TZ2 for around £120, TZ3 for around £150 and the TZ5 comes in at around the £250 mark.

Thanks, it's deffoa toss-up between the Lumix, the Ricoh (the newest one) and maybe one of the olympus'. Think I will pop into a shop and get a feel for them and see what I like in my hand more.
