Decent ISP?

Hi All,

I'm looking at ditching my current ISP (Eclipse) to get a better deal in terms of price and limits etc...

Any suggestions & experiences? The basic O2 package looks good tho I'd have to get a sim (any suggestions here would be good too!).

I don't need a phone/tv/bb package just broadband with a decent speed and decent limits. I've never migrated before, is it easy?

Thanks

WHY would you need to get a sim?

O2 is a proper broadband isp using your HOME telephone line
it used to be called BE
and as far as I'm aware is still listed as the fasted isp using home telephone lines, unlimited downloads, upto 2meg upload speed and pretty good from all the reviews Ive read

IF I lived closer than 2 miles from the nearest telephone exchange I'd be dumping virgin media (ccable) and getting o2

It seems to be £7.50 a month for O2 mobile customers and £12 a month for anyone else (unless I've read it wrong). I can get a free sim from O2 but they want you to top up £15 a month, I just want a proper payg sim that i can bung £20 on and use every now and then!

they want you to top up with £15 a month to get the FREE texts/calls
if you dont want the free texts/calls dont top it up every month, it's that simple!
all you have to do to keep the sim active is make a call at least once every 6 months

IF it's a condition of the offter (havent read it) that you MUST top up with £15 a month then pay the extra £4.50 instead of buying the sim?

Hi Fox,

Good idea to get rid of Eclipse, I used to be with them. I think they either got bought out or were sold and since then the speeds have plumeted (as has the CS in my opinion)

Migrating is relatively straightforward and easy. Dont get me wrong, you will always get a few that go wrong but I reckon you have to be pretty unlucky!

What are you intending to use it for? General Surfing, Newsgroups, online gaming???

I personally went with BT for no other reason than the speed. Admittedly, its fairly costly @ £24 a month but my download speed is fantastic (however this varies according to area). For comparison, on Eclipse I would get around 80 - 150kps download rate no matter where I was (even on Microsofts site?). On BT, I get a stable 700kps download rate and online gaming for me works like a dream.

Cheers

Just had a look myself as I'm thinking of getting a BT line installed.

O2 is £7.50 or £12.50

Terms & conditions state:-
Subject to availability, BT line, direct debit and min term contract. Customer Service calls are free from UK landlines and O2 mobiles. Discounted price quoted is for O2 Mobile customers. One discount per customer and per connection. Discount for Pay & Go customers subject to £10 minimum top-up every 3 months. Fair usage policy applies.

So you would save yourself £20 over the 12 months (if I've calculated that right) - don't know how you would stand if you forgot to top up though

Thanks for the replies!

Use wise it'll just be for general surfing and maybe playing Mario Kart online!

Looking at the deal, I think i'll be just as well to pay the £12.50, don't really need a new phone provider and I WILL forget to top up!

Thanks again!
