Dell 9200 A Good Deal?

After many phone calls I ordered the spec below. Thought I was getting a good deal until reading another similar request and now not so sure. On top of that the original guy I got a quote from has said he will give me another £61 off if I cancel and order through him. I know the 24" monitor pushes the price up considerably but think I have my heart set on getting one.

E9200
Vista Premium
E6600 Viiv Dual Core
2048MB (2 x 1024MB 667MHz)
13-1 Memory Card Reader
500GB Raid 0
DVDRW & DVD Rom
24" Flat Panel
256MB Geoforce 7900GS
Firewire
Analogue / Digital Hybrid TV Card
5650 5.1 Speakers
Logitech MX3000 Wireless keyboard & Mouse
V.92 Modem
3 Year at home warranty

Total £1461

I never realised how pushy the salespeople are.

Your thoughts appreciated...

Just specced it up from the Dell webpage (no e-code used) and it came to £1817.84. Cancelled my order for just now and will probably reorder later on today. Would just like to know that I am getting the best deal, or if I should be holding out for more or trying to get more discount...

Is your heart set on a Dell as you may find it cheaper elsewhere...like www.pcnextday.co.uk for example...and if you self build I'm sure you could save quite a bit....but if it's a Dell that you want then the best advice on here is from MikeT the Dell expert

Thats a pretty good deal the 24" screen makes up a good £550 of the price you may want to consider a higher end graphics card for gaming as the screens native resolution is 1920*1200 which will push the 7900GS in new games

I put together a similar system on Scan for £1507 Total

Vista Home Premium
E6600
Gigabyte 965P-S3
2Gb Corsair Value Select DDR2 (667)
2X 250Gb Western Digital SATA2 (Can Raid 0)
Samsung SATA DVD Writer
Leadtek 320Mb 8800GTS
24" Dell 2407WFP
Logitech X530 5.1 Speakers
Logitech Cordless Desktop MX3000
Antec P180 Case

Obviosly doesnt have the TV card, Modem and Card Reader

If you actually search around for prices the £1507 can be brought down

I think my heart is set on getting a Dell . Will be nice to have everything matching. I know this shouldn't prioritise over performance, but...

There does seem to be some good deals on the Zoostorm PC's. I looked at them before. Will maybe try a last ditch attempt with Dell at getting some more extras or discount.

Have been along the self build pc's before and just don't have the time or inclination anymore to be constantly tweaking with them. I priced up the components roughly on ebuyer and at the end of the day I don't think there would have been that much in it, especially if I stuck with the 24" monitor.

Think I am probably over speccing the machine for what I really need, but will nice to have a high specced machine before it is old hat in a weeks time!

It is an awful lot of money though...

You trying to confuse me even more? :?:-D

Nice, but think I will already be trying to shoe-horn the 24" into the limited space I have. I only have a 15" monitor at the moment and just can't imaging what a 24" monitor is going to look like in its place...

You definately wont be dissapointed with it especially the 24" i am looking into the 22" market and they are huge

The reviews for the 24" screen seem to be good, with it only being bettered maybe by a Samsung, but it is quite a bit dearer...

Hopefully it will last me some time... Price probably not that bad as I remember paying £300 for my 15" a few years back...

Have just emailed back my 'friend' at Dell to see if he can pull any more discounts or freebies from his sleeve. Am awaiting a reply, but have a feeling I might be dissappointed....

Managed to eek a free web cam into the package, but not budging on the price...

Is this a good deal?

wow that is generous!!...as I said MikeT is the dell expert and you may wish to pm him for his thoughts as he has not responded here.

Well i have looked around and i cant match that price including the 24" screen i looked around a few prebuilt sites and cant get close to it when you order make sure you get 2*1gb sticks not 4*512mb and maybe ask if you can swap the webcam for an upgrade to Creative speakers. but other than that i dont think you will be dissapointed

After much haggling I have managed another £50 off, taking it down to £1350.

However, I have been going between 2 salespersons and one of them says he can do me a better spec and price, but I need to phone back next week. The offer of £1350 apparently only stands for today!

In a quandry now on what to do. Do I take the deal of £1350 or take a gamble and wait to see what I get offered on Monday?

Help please.....:?

OMG ..I'm the wrong person to advise...I bought a lappy the week before last only to find it had dropped £80 last Saturday..fortunately Comet agreed to refund me...well if you had an assurance that he could do a better price next week then I'd be tempted to wait....but at the end of the day it's for you to decide.
