    Dell laptop battery

My battery has officially just died, I have had it 8 months ish. What is the warranty on the batteries? I really can't afford a new battery, they want £109 for a replacement.

    anyone that can help me?

never had a problem with dell's, they are semi reliable.

I have 119 days left on warranty, is the battery covered under this?

Buy same model laptop as you have and swap battery and tell wherever you buy it from it's broke and get refund. Sly yes but only fair as getting them to replace your battery after 8 months will be excuse after excuse on how its your fault

I don't have £400 to throw at a new laptop ... I'm semi skint. I know I can take laptop back to tesco as it's under 12 months warranty with them but i really don't wanna go down this route if I have to (as they don't stock the lappy I have now).

Just speak simple english, string 5 words together to make a sentence and you should do fine.

been on phone for 40 mins just to diagnose the fault... Now they want a screen dump of the bios and of the dell battery meter in windows. They will then arrange for my laptop to go to india or somewhere to be diagnosed, and if faulty, laptop and new battery sent within 15 days.

Told them to sod off (nicely) as i need the laptop for work. Now they are seeing if their manager will allow them to send out a new battery..

GRrrrrrrrr next time i'm going to HP or someone else for a lappy

i know with vaios the batteries are seen as consumable items so are not covered.

Did you run the mains and battery on at the same time a lot? this is normally what mashes the lithium ion batteries as you should only have the mains plugged in when the laptop if off and charging the battery or when the battery is out of the lappy and you are just running it on the mains (if you want to keep battery life at its best)

my battery died within the warranty and they sent me a new one, had to do what you had to do though but just tell them over the phone. theres a button on the battery you press as well.

They swapped mine after 11 months, no problems went through a few details and questions. then sent one out and took old one in return.

There will be a softkey like button next to a bar indicator like on a mobile, when you press it the amount of bars light up to indicate the strength of the battery.

yup lot of people dont realise it, i do it myself with my netbook just cos i cba lol

also if you leave the battery with charge in and dont use it for a good few weeks your battery can drain and you can never get it back to a full capacity again so if you no your not going to use your battery for a while discharge it so that when you use it again you can give it a full charge and it should work fine

an update, dell ordered me a battery for delivery today, but didn't turn up. Rang up at 7 and the reason is they had none in stock (in warehouse or whatever). No one thought to ring me to let me know:x . They are now waiting on a delivery which is due the 5th Jan, so i'm not gonna have a battery till the 7th at the ealiest :x

My next pc / laptop isn't gonna be a dell, i rely on my laptop for my work....

ffs .. im sorry about your bad experience with dell. mind if i hop on and tell you what exp i had? (assuming yes lol).

People I only just got to know had a pc problem. April 2009 their hard disk died. machine was out of warranty.
Dell charged £140 for sending out a 250gb hard disk (no installation or anything).

3 weeks ago.. replacement hard disk died. Turns out the hard disk was only covered by a 90 day warranty from dell! however .. dell will send out another hard disk...

£120 for a 250gb hard disk, 90 day warranty, or £108 for a 1 year warranty. They dont install it or anything.

    Picked up one for £29.65. .. =/

Yeah dell are known for their over pricing of parts. It's probably how they make their money though. Tell the users their parts only work in their products etc.

They would want £109 to replace my battery if not in warranty. Thankfully it is or I would just by a cheap one off ebay or sell the laptop. The battery price is a 3rd of what I paid for the laptop

Hp is even worse so dont bother, dell are very good usually I just think its just that time of the year and youve just be unfortunate, if you had thier premium warranty this would of been resolved withing 24-48 hours, what you pay for is what you get, never mind atleast you dont have to fork out £109.

Yeah I know but I'm mainly miffed that no one rung me and told me that the item is outta stock and no dispatch would be made. I had to ring and find out why. :x

I waited in all day for nothing.......

I have the same Dell battery problem........have emailed them but no reply as expected, my laptop is 18 months old and have mentioned the SOG act. After the trouble i had actually buying the lappy with a faulty keyboard in the first place, i know that wasting many more hours on the phone will not result in a satisfacory responce from them.
