    Dell laptop warranties?

I've had my lap top around 6 months and its making a very loud sound every 5 minutes, near the drivers, i'm no computer expert and can't explain it better then this. Anyone know of what the warranty is on this please? Anyone used this if so what's the procedure. Thanks

Did you buy if direct from Dell via their site? If so, only you will know what warranty you selected - it may be a 'return to base' one where you will need to call them and arrange for it to be sent back if it's faulty.

Kinda perplexed by 'near the drivers' comment tbh. What kinda sound is it, does it sound like a fan?

Thanks moob, it was directly from the Dell website, and yes sounds like a fan, every 5 mins or so for about 30 seconds, i've vacumed it (without opening it) as it has air vents, but it hasn't made a difference

Does the fan need cleaning ?

Depends where it is it may need some silicon oil but you would have to open it up really

I will prob send it back to Dell as i only bought it in Feb 10

I have a dell and had a problem
I just rang them and they talked me through the steps I needed to do to find the problem
It could not be fixed there and then so they sent courier to collect it. Returned in two days

Couldn’t felt them for service and repair

also had a business comp, which they sent engineer to my work

dont even need to ring them, can do it via live chat,. ive always found dell pretty darn helpful

The warranty depends on what model you bought and whether you took any warranty upgrades, some of their machines come with better warranties by default whereas others don't. If you go to the following page and enter your service tag, it will tell you exactly what type of warranty you have:

    support.euro.dell.com/sup…ils?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=anavml

If it's a next business day onsite warranty, Dell will send someone next day to your machine to fix it once they've diagnosed the problem however for lower warranties you may need to send the machine back.

When dealing with Dell they're essentially automated drones who just want an error code from diagnostics otherwise they can be a bit troublesome no matter how well you describe the problem. To that end, go to the Dell downloads site for your model and download their diagnostics iso - burn this to CD and boot from it, you should get a list of individual tests you can run including tests on the fan controller. Run these tests and see if the system detects any faults with the fans, if so you'll get a diagnostics code and error message which you need to write down. If the system passes the tests but is making the noise during the test, record a video of the system making the noise in the Dell diags and upload it to Youtube and link Dell to it. You really need to be able to reproduce the problem if possible outside of Windows otherwise Dell may well blame Windows for the issue even though it's a physical fault.
