Dell Memory Upgrades from 667mhz to 800mhz for no extra cost

Wasn't sure where to post this....but just to let everyone know, that at the moment on Dell's site, when selecting the memory for Inspiron systems, you can upgrade from 667mhz to 800mhz memory for no extra cost - as Dell normally select 667mhz memory by default - and its generally £10 extra for the same size of upgraded memory. I'm not sure if this works with any other systems.

    e.g.
4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [4x1024] [Included in Price]
    4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [4x1024] add £0.00

Mods - if this should be posted elsewhere, can you please move it!

No need to use memory rated any higher than necessary on a Dell system because you can't overclock them so will not make use of it. Memory timings would make a difference, so in actual fact, the 800 rated RAM may be slower than the 667 if the timings are looser.

Useful for when you upgrade to next intel platform later this year where you can make use of the 800mhz memory.

Not much use for your setup currently though as they would be downclocked to 667mhz., but if its free upgrade why the hell not?

Current Intel desktop systems support DDR2-800, it’s the mobile platform that is limited to DDR-667; this offer will be aimed at desktop systems.

So are we supposed to celebrate because they finally stopped dumping all the kak old 667 on unsuspecting people? bout time, 800mhz has been the optimum for nearly 2 yrs
