Deposited cash into my current account, money not available for 6 days?!

Popped into a Halifax bank to put a cheque and some money in, saw there was massive queue so used the "Quick Deposit ATM machine" instead. I've used similar ones in HSBC and found them to process cheques and money very quickly. However, I was gobsmacked to see that it will take 6 DAYS for them to process my CASH deposit?! What gives? This is a current account and I know for fact that this would have been instantly available had I deposited at the counter. I've had to do another bank transfer as I've got direct debits coming out on Monday.

Certainly won't be using the Quick Deposit ATM machine again.

Cheque never clear for that long. They show but you cant touch it for upto 6/7 days

Sorry misread - a cash deposit should never take that long - i would be in there kicking up hell

Thats what i was thinkiing; they might be able to get something from the location and time..

Although i think OP just wants to flash their wad of money.

ah thats nothing compared to my bank balance:p

I've removed the only sensitive bit of info on there. If someone wanted someone's bank details they only have to pick up one of the receipts lying near cashpoints.

Good Point but take it down eh, your making me jealous with your healthy bank balance!:-D

I feel your pain Op, i was escorted from the premises of a branch of halifax when I queried their policy on cash.

I deposited 2k in cash in my current account
I asked if that hit my account immediately as it should
They said it took 4 days to clear
As a qualified accountant and techy geek I have a good understanding of finance and computing operations.
I wasn't satisfied with their answer, so asked for a manager who I again asked to explain how cash needs to clear, and basically accused him of being a thief for 4 days.
Then two goons appeared and escorted me out of the branch, I did pick a day when flaming Howard was in doing some promo carp.

I havent banked with Halifax since then.

OK OK I've done that now I'm not trying to draw attention to my bank balance, just to prove how ridiculous banks are even in this day of age with regards to clearance.

It's a joke isn't it! I remember opening my first account with Halifax, think it was a cardcash account. Cheques used to take 10 WORKING DAYS to clear! That's 2 weeks!!! WHY?!

It was quicker to deposit them into my HSBC account then to do a bank transfer!

Yeah never earn more than 15K for 50 years or die!

i once tried to put both cash and a cheque in my account together and was told if i did then the cash wouldnt show until the cheque had cleared but if i did them seperately then the cash would show straight away.

Check this link, from Halfax's own website, it clearly states that cash paid in is available for withdrawl on the same day - I would ring them and query why if it is not. It is possible that the deposit machine you used is not configured correctly, and has printed an incorrect date on the receipt, but either way your cash should be available to withdraw.

Welcome to Brown's Britain, they need the cash to pay themselves large bonuses.

If you pay in cash and cheques over the counter in the same transaction the cash will take days to clear...

Clydesdale bank has been this way for years, split your payins if you need the cash to be cleard straight away...

Normally I pay my cash and cheques together over the counter (cash has always become immediately available) but on this occasion I was pressed for time so opted for the in-branch ATM machine.

The date on the receipt is correct as neither the cash or cheques are available yet.
