Diamond Engagement Ring how much is worth?

Ok as some of you may know me and my partner broke up last week and we not getting back together.
I have an engagement ring which is 18carat gold, with 1/3 carat solitaire diamond and as I've never sold any jewellery before was wondering how much I might get for it.It's been worn and is fairly solid piece of jewellery.

    given as a gift........its hers :-D

i was married and broke up with my hubby about 3 years ago, finally about a year ago i decided to get shot of my rings. i took them to one of those gold sales, they're usually advertised in the local paper and they buy your gold by weight. my wedding ring was 18 carat white gold and my engagement ring was 18 carat white gold with a third of a carat solitaire diamond like yours. i got £90 in cash for them both to be melted down, i was a happy bunny, it paid for my ticket to a festival that year because i was just pleased to get shot of them. you might be better off selling yours to a jeweller but where i live there aren't many jewellers who buy jewellery
    hope your ok hun

I don't think I would want to keep this ring,I be ok with other stuff bought for me but not the engagement ring as I remember the nights very well from when I been given the diamond ring plus the 1 before. We actually been engaged since I was 16 and I still infact have the CZ ring that he give me way back then, too many memories with these items.

Yeh but it's a constanst reminder seeing the ring when I open up a jewellery box and stuff.

 if id got a girl a diamond engagement ring and we spit i would sure as hell want it back

Don't be tempted to send it away to a service which claims they will buy 'any jewellery for cash', these are often shifty and they regularly under value many items. These items also have a tendancy to get 'lost in the post'.

I used to work for Ernest Jones. 1/3 Carat solitare diamonds often go for around £500, although they do lose some value when used, if its in good condition you can probably expect around £200.

    Hope this helps

Given with the condition included that they marry, since the contract to wed has been broken then surely it needs to be returned, a bit like buying those 6 books for 1p each deals when you commit to buy so many at full price.

Should always read the small print:whistling:

I am amazed by this thread....

Of course the ring should be given back, it is a symbol of a bond, which is now gone...??

I would not care if he did not want it back, he would be getting it back..

I do see some points about it being a gift and all that, but it should be given back..

Imagine if he game you his great grandmothers diamond family engagement ring, if you split would you keep it???

    Astonished.

Yeh he started to mess about with the 16yr old ( he's almost 34,I'm 29 ) just as the sale was going through and we just paid a deposit and had keys handed over and then we argued etc.

He admitted so much at 1st then changed his mind a few hrs later but like he been very cold towards me as weeks have gone.He did not speak up,he thought things would work out but kept flirting with her at work and stuff.
Now he wants the 20K back he put into house as deposit,so thats gotta be sorted out, some arrangement made.I put in deposit too 26K worth.
He can't afford to keep the house,I can,he wants to rent a flat and he couldn't pay half into mortgage and this is his own doing hence I'm having the house as I have the kids too to think of.

Well I asked him if he wants it back,he said no,he said to give it to Cerys even when older, I'm not so sure about having it laid about in jewellery box so I ask here how mcuh it might be worth.

Yeh well I won't pretend I'm not upset and I cry a lot during the day,I not really sleeping proper either,

Take last night,i left the house at 10.30am had about 2hr trip to London, took kids to Wembley Arena for Walking with Dinosaurs, was pain cos tubes some partly closed and took a long way round getting (try not uses buses ) and then by time show finished and I walked to the Travelodge,I'm like exhausted but did not sleep till about 4am then I was awake again within a few hrs. It's been like this since Friday now, about 2-3 hrs sleep. In the week or so before that I was sleeping ok every other night cos things were not right.

I wouldn't cared so much if he just 'slept' with her and said it was a big mistake and owned up to it etc and was still with me,I could get over something like that.

he probably thinks the grass is greener and all that,
im sure the novelty will wear of with his new girlfriend and he may come crawling back realising he has made a big mistake
has he made arrangements over seeing the kids?

Nothing been arranged but it's likely we be living in seperate towns,he can't drive and doubt he ever be able to cos bad eyes, but nothing been arranged.

Nah I won't have him back once he gone out this house for good, trust me,I've done my grovelling over past few days,so he only got until he leaves to make it work, but he def does not want me,he made it clear.

many moons ago I was engaged and discovered my other half was cheating. I called it off..............and no doubt will get slated for this.................but knocked out a diamond in the ring with a screwdriver.............went to the jewellers (thankfully had the receipt) and made such a big fuss about how the ring was a disgrace and we had went to a better jewellers.............I knew they wouldnt give a refund but an exchange which was just fine.

Anyway I chose a watch, necklace, earrings, all sorts of lovely things!!!!! The receipt showed the big long list of things I had chosen and at the bottom it said the total amount.....then the engagement ring amount was scanned basically showing a nil balance

I then photocopied the receipt and sent him a copy and had written at the bottom saying THANKYOU!!!!
