I'm proposing soon :), haven't got the ring yet though. Does anyone know if you can barter the price of the ring? I know gold is quite expensive at the minute.

I know there's a really expensive one in Oxford I forget what it's called does an expensive shop mean the rings are better than a shop that has cheaper ones??

lol - not to good on geography

Deare shops do not always mean better quality, better service maybe, you really need to scout round and find what you want, what cut you looking for and what clarity of diamond you want, then do some real research

jewlery quarter isnt far from oxford....100miles .... thats like 1.5hours...stop being lame and get up there...or ur other option is the cowley centre! haha

there was an offer on HUKD today for £50 off £150 at Ernest Jones. Might be worth a look!

    Edited to add:

sorry I've just checked back and the person was requesting a voucher!

I haven't a clue  I'm thinking of spending £1k would any of you ladies be disappointed with that? I just don't trust her walking around with any more than that, mate spent £1,350 on his then she did the dirty on him. He then sold the ring on for £350!! My grandad said it should be 3 months wage (as he did), but stuff that am I spending £4,200 on a ring :w00t:

I think thats a very fair amount and there are some lovely rings out there for that. They do say spend 3xs monthly wage on a ring but I would be too scared to wear something worth that so I think that amount is just perfect

    Good luck

how about you get a little ring to do the one knee jobby, then when she says yes you both go to find the real ring

i drove from london to jewlery quarter in birmingham, well worth the drive as i saved a lot on the ring i wanted (couple of grand) plus bicknells there give you a certificate to insure for full value which is almost 3 times more than what i paid

So you don't even have faith in your abilities to train your man well enough to find the right sort of ring? :-D

You sound a bit high maintenance to me ...

I always thought it was the equivalent of 1 months wages but Wiki says 2-3,i was swindled:w00t:

I picked my own ring at it was less then £500 but that was the one i wanted, it's not about the cost

the usual guidance is an engagement ring shouldn't cost more than a months wages so 1k should be spot on for you. Good luck x x

I was brought up being told 1months wages!! Don't just go on money or size though as i only have little fingers and my finger could not take a full carat and look nice. Think about colour (whiter the better) clarity, and cut. My friend has a carat (i don't like it coz it's yellow in colour). I think £1000 is a good sensible price. My mam lost her first engagement ring in the sand at our beach!!

he did she said yes!!!!!!!! :-D
