Diesel engine re-mapping. Anyone had it done?

Got a Fiesta 1.4tdci which seems to be a bit down on power and mpg so was thinking about getting it re-mapped. Anyone here had this done and if so was it worth it?

angel tuning did my fabia vrs. top job and they come to you anywhere in country

    worth every penny for me.
dont know what the gains would be for yours, but my vrs went from 130bhp to 170.
    mid range acceleration was awesome.

i had a passat 1.9tdi 130 remapped by motech in milton keynes they did a top job just make sure whoever you choose know what there doing as they will advise what will work best for you and if it's worth squeezing as much out as possible or getting a nice smooth power increase just beware that clutches can need to be replaced not long after on cars getting on a bit

Agree. Angel tuning make a point of staying well within tolerances.

Hi I had it done on a Seat Ibiza tdi a few years ago by autowerke and it worked a treat got an extra 25bhp. Would say it was worth it as had a boost in power but no los in economy. Just keep it serviced on time if you do.

Thanks for the comments guys. Car is services and engine flushed regularly but performance seems right down on what it used to be - only 4 years old and 50k miles so it's not like it's worn out.

might worth putting it on a diagnostic machine first to see if it has any other problem causing the lack of power/mpg.

My current car has a stage 2 remap with other mods - Was a 150bhp Leon FR TDI, now running at 200bhp & 330lb/ft torque.

Got mine done by BAS in York, heard good things about Revo & P-Torque though.

    Few things to consider:

    1. Clutch - I had to also get a Sachs racing clutch kit due to slipping of the standard clutch (circa £700). You can get torque limited on certain maps, but most Stage 1 maps are generic.

    2. Insurance - Declaring this mod will put your premiums up (modified car insurance is always more expersive than normal car insurance, plus a lot of places will not even incure you). If you dont declare it, you will actually be driving with no insurance if the insurance company find you have had it done in the event of an accident (if they look at your ECU, they will find it).

    3. Why bother on a 1.4 fiesta ? Save up & get something with more power as standard, or put your money into mods that will make a difference in normal driving conditions (handling/braking etc).

OK, just looked up your car & your will be going from 68 bhp to 88bhp.

I would recommend not getting this done (you wont even feel the 20bhp difference) - save up for a new car !

I'd also recommend not getting a tuning box - all it will do is fool your ECU into overfueling your engine

    Good Luck !

Cheers Chris. Was more interested in the mpg advantages to be honest - extra power would be a bonus but not essential as it's the wife's car and she doesn't boot it around much.

MPG does go up, but I doubt you will see much on your car mate.

I get an extra 4-5mpg (depending on how you drive), but thats in 6th gear on the motorway !

Not worth it for that to be honest on a 1.4 Fiesta (remap outlay plus insurance costs)

Extra Power = Lower mpg, believe me!

A 30% increase and you wont feel it? 20hp on a 200+bhp then I would say no but on 68bhp then you will, should give you similar performance to the 1.6.

i'm selling my passat after i'v been round europe in it in march i'll then be looking at a lupo 1.4tdi there 75bhp and with the remap you get around 100bhp + the extra torwue which makes a big difference too deffo worth getting them done 100bhp in a small car will be fun
as for better mpg you get better mpg compared to before on like for like driving so obviously thrash it and it'll use more drive normal and you should see better mpg compared to normal driving before the map

i had to have a new clutch but went for a genuine standard clutch and have had no problems since and the power difference is great but i'd recomend a smooth power curve rather than a violent one the violent ones feel faster but aren't as much use for normal driving
