Disable write protection on SD card

Found 14th Jan
Hi all

For some reason, the Micro SD card which I use on a daily basis has decided to 'write protect' itself, meaning I can no longer add or delete files.

I've double checked that the 'LOCK' tab isn't set on my SD adapter and also cleared write protection via Command Prompt, however, it's still protected.

Any idea how I can remove this?

Thanks in advance

What SD card is it?

Does enabling it (write protection) and disabling it again help?

Tried that, still doesn't work

2GB? My advise is just get another card.

I've had the same issue before. Basically it's caput.

SanDisk Micro SD's go into write protection when they're caput, however if you contact SanDisk it may be in warranty still. You don't need proof of purchase, they have replaced a few for me even though I bought them secondhand.

My Sandisk 64GB SD did the same after about 2-3 months.

I've purchased a few more spares but that doesn't really help me right now. I use it for music in my car and I'm going on a long distance journey in a few hours

Ahh, fair enough. This is a fairly old SD card so it won't be in warranty.

Yeah, I assume you have tried this: sdcard.org/dow…_4/

And tried using the Disk Manager to format? Assuming both of them fail then it definitely faulty.

I can think of better ways to spend what little time you have than trying to get that card working again. The reason I said get another card is because it's dead

Hi on the side og the sd card you should see a slide tab to write protect make shore it not on try move it the other side.

I think he's already tried that in beginning

As #6, except I would say that most Flash cards switch to read only when they reach their write limit, even SSDs are supposed to do this.

I an guessing you use this as whatever you use it in wont take larger cap cards, this is a bummer of a situation I have been through myself, a VERY good Clarion ICE that is left gathering dust, replaced by a less capable Clarion that takes newer, larger cap cards.

Try putting sellotape over the write protection switch so that it completely covers it.
