Would you buy one? The specific model came out in 2005 i think, and was worth in excess of £1000.

I can get it for £300, but i don't know if I should. its the 42" HITACHI 42PD7200.

any ideas?

Its not worth £300 now! Maybe £150 - £175 tops.........

Things have moved on in technology and prices have come down, so the £1000 original price tag is irrelevant.

You could buy a better set for about £50 more brand new with warranty. I took delivery today of a 37" Panny HD Plasma, which cost me £410..... There will be no comparison with the quality of this set compared to the Hitachi.

i'd get 12 months warranty on it. For £300 i wasn't sure how wrong I could go. its HD ready, 1080i, its got 1000:1 contrast ratio but i don't really know what the contrast ratio does. it has an hdmi port and i only use one anyway

Good size for the price. However, the picture quality and connectivity options will be severely lacking. It would be better to go for a more recent smaller TV or pay up for a bigger model. These will likely come with better warranties, picture quality and connectivity options.

1024x1024, bit of a weird resolution for 16:9

If it's screen resolution is 1024 * 1024 then it's not able to display 1080i at full resolution (which would be 1920 * 1080) so it's able to accept a 1080i signal and downscale, just don't get confused with this being a 1080i resolution screen.

ok thanks for the advice. i guess i'll leave it. if anyone does want it, its available at Richersounds - Brighton in the clearance section. its actually a slightly different model but i read up that its pretty much the same.
