Discounted console from CEX

Has anybody bought a 'Discounted' console from CEX before? There are boxed versions, unboxed and discounted versions of the 3DS XL. It is for my 9-year-old son and I haven't really got much money spare now as I have just bought him the Pokemon 3DS Sun game for Christmas. He already has a DS Lite which I was hoping to trade in for £26. I'm just wondering if the discounted consoles are in really bad condition - lots of scratches, etc - can anybody let me know if they have actually bought one and what condition it was in, please? I just don't want to buy one on-line to get it and find that you can hardly see the screen images due to it being really scratched. Thank you.
