    DIY Help needed!!

Hi, i'm after a bit of advice from anyone who can help me. I have a small box room with a large buit in box over the stairs. I was hoping someone could tell if i can knock it down and just have the slant there from the stairs. Its in my son's room and he has a cabin bed at the moment but know he's 13 he wants a proper bed but there would be no room for a wardrobe. Any advice would be good. Thanks

Bit hard to say get a builder to asses.

Just be careful, had cavity wall insulation done last year( without consulting), didn't end well

Although, heating bills were reduced as advertised due to being homeless

your son is 13 and doesnt have a proper bed? oO

cant you build a wardrobe on top of the box? Its obviously there for a reason and covering something up.

We removed the box over our stairs when we extended the bedroom and just have the small slope there now.

Take a look at Ikea..they have some great solutions for small kids bedrooms, such as bunk bed style frames, he could then sleep on top of whatever is underneath, such as a wardrobe.

If you can't fit a bed etc in there now, how will this help? The slope will still have the same footprint as the box?

It would if you actually built a bed frame over the slope by removing the "dummy" box, my father did this I remember back in the day for my brothers small bedroom, created a built in bed frame with drawers underneath.

Above the box in our small room is a built in wardrobe, could you do this?

This is one of those 'this thread is useless without pics' threads. OP says 'large box'. How large is large, or in the case of your example, how high is the box.

    Same as.

As long as it's not supporting anything I can't see any reason why not.

At my last house there was a cabin bed built over the box with storage underneath.

Where's MagicBeans when you need her.

hi, thanks for all replies. we have a cabin bed in there now but he wants a normal single bed. Have thought about a building on top of the box but i would prefer it if i could knock it down.

Could you add a picture? I can only imagine how it is in our room, and it wouldn't be possible
