I'm chairperson for my daughters schools parents group, we have been given a room to use but it needs adjustments, carpets, units and storage etc. We don't have much funds and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any groups or shops that can help in these situations. We can offer to put thanks and logo on our newsletter but don't no what else. Thank you for any help!

I helped with my sons school when they needed funds raised - and we wrote to every single shop in our shopping centre for donations - then raffled them all off. Most replied and donated and we made over £3k

So basically you wanna pimp the room ?

Surely you can have a fundraising day, get the other parents to make cakes to sell, donate prizes to a raffle etc

It's just a bare room with one sink with unit. We want to make it so parents that sometimes feel they have nowhere to go and no one to talk to have a place to come also to be able to run courses provided by our local college to help parents get back to work! We are running the schools fair in July which we will be splitting funds raised with the school but I was wondering if there was anything else out there! Thanks

Quite the money maker and booty shaker eh? :w00t:

I think u might be looking at the easy option that probably wont happen. You should try what we done (post 2) as it was great fun - but very hard work, but rewarding!

That's a great idea thanks hadn't thought of that! We used to have a local place that had 2nd hand stuff at reduced cost but they stopped trading! Am gonna also try gumtree and freecycle!
Thanks for all help!

If you are going to be setting up a group in the room to help parents in some way (which it sounds like you are) then you might be able to apply for some kind of support, either from one of the lottery funds or from other local sources?
When I was involved in running a charity we found that large companies such as Ikea (if you have one near) were often really helpful, and if it's furnishings that you are looking for then that could be useful.
Write to all the big companies in the area and see what they say - remind them that the local papers will be interested in printing details about your new group, and it will be good publicity for them!

We got a grant a couple of years back when we set our parent group up, had to do it properly with chair, treasurer etc, then we applied for a grant to help pay towards our breakfast club, with the grant we had to show how we had spent the money at breakfast club and how it had benefitted the kids we had people in to do arts and crafts with them at breakfast club (artlandish), but there was also an amount left over which went to the parents group..

name cards could have things like tennis balls, footballs, hoola hoops etc as prizes

bonus ball lotto for the adults, £1 to pick a number then use the national lotterys bonus ball for the winning number, if nobody wins it rolls over... we do 50% to parents fund. 50% to the winner

bingo mornings, we ask parents of the school for any unwanted gifts and have asked local shops to donate small things for publicity.

guess how many sweets in the jar for each class.. 20p a guess closest to the actual amount wins the sweets

Non school uniform day, we have non school uniform on the last day of each term for 50p each,

table top sale in the playground

a for sale notice board where parents can place items for sale for a cost of 20p a week (or whatever you choose)

tuck shop? we do tuck shop on a friday afternoon, for 20p each child has a small piece of fruit and a cake... we have baking rotas where parents at the school volunteer to bake/buy 24 cakes and bring them to school on the week its their turn. We have enough parents that they only need to do this 2 or 3 times in the school year..

school disco's - we have 1 a term, charge £1 entry per child which includes a drink and after paying the guy that does the disco we still make quite a bit of money after... We sell sweets, crisps, drinks and things like glow sticks at the discos too.

Weve had a magic show where weve paid for someone to come in after school and do a magic show, charged for tickets and made quite a bit of money from that and the kids and adults loved it!

If i can remember any more ideas that weve done ill let you know

If someone in your school has a direct family tie to someone who works in Clarks you might be able to get £500 off them as they are Quakers.
